Thinking of buying a sc on ebay. Just curious if you think this putter, since it's my impression, is worth more or less given the paint work is not done by scotty cameron. . . . . .

It depends. As long as the putter is an authentic SC and not a clone, even a well used stock paintfill Studio select will fetch $150-$200 on ebay. But on the other side, ive seen aftermarket custom paint fills and other modifications on SC's fetch as much as $500.

A good putter, I like the offset. To me though, the new studio selects don't have the same feel and sound that his older putters have. I have two studio select models (the Squareback 2 and the Laguna 1.5) and I actually like older models better in terms of feel. my favorite being my 06 Circa 62 #3 and my 99 pro platinum Laguna 2.

I suggest since the studio select is the current model out right now that you go to a golf store and take a couple strokes with it, to see if you like the feel before spending $200+ on a putter.

I think to hardcore scotty fans it won't be worth more because if it gets sent in for authentification, it would probably get a lower rating from the putter studio if the work is not done by them.

Thanks guys. I did play two rounds with one the other day so I feel I have a decent "feel" as to whether I will like it. I currently have the taylor made rossa so I'm looking for something smaller!

One thing you'll want to look into before buying anything is to see what type of toe hang fits your putting style. If you have a straight-back-straight-through stroke, you'll want something that is face balanced. If you have a very pronounced "arc" stroke (inside-square-inside), you'll want something with a lot of toe hang like the putter you quoted. Most "Newport" putters you'll run into have a plumber's neck on them, which is good for strokes in between the two extremes. If you don't know what type of stroke you have, instead think about your typical misses. If you tend to pull puts, you might have too much toe hang. If you tend to push puts, you might not have enough toe hang.

The way you tell toe hang is to balance the putter on your finger along the shaft and to see how the face "hangs" on its own. The face of a face-balanced putter will stay parallel to the ground, the face of a plumber's neck will hang at about a 45* angle to the ground (4:30), and the face on a flow-neck putter like the one you linked to will hang near vertial (about 5:15-5:30).
