I just got a CG15 52* wedge. I played today, and was striking the ball really well (at least on some shots). Anyway, on a par three that I normally hit 9 iron, I hit the hell out of it, and flew the green, by a lot and into the woods. When I hit my provisional, I hit my new wedge. I didn't hit it quite as well, but it was a good shot never-the-less. The ball came up short of the green by 10 yards or so (a difference of like 30 yards).

All of my clubs are gripped with midsize grips +3 wraps of tape. The new club has not yet been regripped yet. Is it possible that a grip that far undersized caused me to tighten my grip to the point I'm describing? I could definitely tell a difference in grip pressure. I'm just curious if I'm making excuses for myself.

If one were to compile a list of possible explanations, I would rank "grip size" as #4,312.

You are just making excuses for yourself. One shot does not mean a thing my friend. I f it happens 100 times come back and let us know

Kind thought so, but it was worth a try to make myself feel a little better. It could not possibly be my fault, has to be the equipment

Grip size will effect the shape of the shot, not really distance.

Thicker grips will cause you to hit the ball more right, and smaller ones will cause you to hit them more left. The reason its easier to turn the wrist over with a smaller grip and keep them from turning over with a larger grip.

I can see that logic, I just feel like I have to squeeze the life out of the club to keep it in my hands with standard grips.

    • Great year last year. Who winning this year could be another special story? Brooks? Spieth? Or Aberg? An AM? I dont know if anything could top last year
    • I love Rancho Park too!  I don't get out there much due to the 405 issues (Im in Santa Clarita) but I do try and get out there every now and then...last time out was in January where I eagled 17 (left green) with a holed 145 yard third shot ! Rancho is a great course! And at 24 bucks weekday with the city card, an absolute steal!
    • I have played PGA West, at least one or two courses in there, but I am not sure if I've played any of the courses used to host the Hope. I played a course that I think both isn't PGA West and is host to the Hope a few years ago, possibly at a TST outing, but I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the right one. I have played Rancho Park plenty of times (exactly half of my sub-80 rounds were there!) and Wilson/Harding.  Rancho Park might be my favorite golf course among those I've played more than a half dozen times.   Hopefully I'll get a chance to play TPC Scottsdale, maybe this August or September, and at some point I think there was a PGA Tour event in Las Vegas, I should get up there and play those course(s).
