Steel or Graphite shafts?

I have a friend who is sixty-four years old and is going to buy a set of Ping G15s next week. He hits his 7 iron 145 yards.
Do you think he should buy graphite or steel shafts?

Ping has a wonderful fitting system. Please make sure that he fitted correctly and this decision will come out loud and clear in the fitting. Please don't spend that much money without this.

Seconded for the fitting, especially for Ping clubs. My understanding is that they practically invented fitting the everyman consumer.

If he is 64, Id say graphite. Graphite give less hand shock (vibration that comes up through the shaft on impact), so it will be easier on his joints and his hands. Also, he probably wont have the fastest swing in the world, so graphite will be better because they kind of whip just before impact and help give better distance.

I'm 53. Went through the static online fitting at Ping's website followed by a dynamic fitting (hitting a 7 iron) at Austad's to determine my ball flight. I hit my 7 iron about 142. I got recommendations in both steel and graphite shafts and ultimately went with Ping's AWT steel shafts. I have not encountered any problems with vibration. I have nothing against the AWT graphite shafts but they're more expensive and based on my experience I don't the extra cost is justified.
