Hey guys

Have been playing a lot lately, have been putting together like 2 good weeks and then have a week or rough play usually can battle out of it but the last time i played i felt like i didnt have control over my swing and i couldnt make an adjustment to help it at all.

I battle my hips all the time trying to clear them properly and when i dont i pretty much just block everything out to the right. Just wondering if anyone had some drills to do to help clear the hips and help stop the blocks. Also was wondering if anyone else with this problem has some quick fixes so when im on the course and this is happening i will be able to fake my way through the round and now just have a terrible round.

thanks

I have no drill but usually when I start hitting blocks, I do one of of these 3 things and I get back on track.

1. slow down the backswing. when you are too fast with your backswing, it takes a lot more energy to clear the hip because well, fast backswing mean not only you need energy to to complete your downswing but you also have to fight through the energy created on the backswing. It could be done, but it takes a a really strong dude or a really good lower dody move to overcome it.

2. drag the club straighter and flatter on the backswing. This gets my club to swing more naturally along target line and gives me better chance to square the club head.

3. This is usually where I screw up and I do it when I get lazy. I move the whole left side of my body. I think I am moving my hip only, but I am not. It causes me to sway a bit and i usually block to the right. It is SOOOO important to get only the hip ahead first, It created that little C from the middle of your body. Basically all pros have to it to some extend. and most high to mid handicapper don't have it. As disscussed in the best thread here- "the biggest secret-slide your hip."
I am like pretty slow with the backswing and bang I try to get that lower body only to get ahead. Humm, now that I think about it I do have a drill. Put your left foot up almost up against he wall, put your hands together like in a normal setup.Make a backswing and on your downswing, get your left hip as close to the wall without it hitting the wall .Make sure you are not unwinding your shoulder too early and make sure you get the feel of getting through the ball with your hip.

I to have this problem and as KEEPITSIMPLE stated the slid your hip thread is great reading on this matter. That thread helped me so much. When I start blocking everything to the right I imagine a string from my right hip, say going through a belt loop tied to my club head and in order to get my club to the ball I must pull it through with my hip, hope this helps.
