this is what i tend to do as well... my putting has been pretty decent the last couple of rounds out (low 30's per 18).

I put firm but that is only certain putts. If it is short and I miss I will go by 2-3 feet. I am confident from short range. It really depends on the putt.

Firm. There is nothing worse than to watch your ball tracking to the hole only to stop a foot short. A firm putt has a chance of dropping if its on line, a soft putt wont.
