Let me just start out by saying that I'm not looking to enforce the rules on someone else in a friendly round or complaining about losing a round.

With that out of the way, I was playing with a friend of mine yesterday and picked up his wedge greenside while he was putting out. Grabbing the face, the thing literally felt like sandpaper. I asked him if he knew if that was a legal club, because I'd never seen anything like it. He didn't know, but admitted that it was an odd little club.

The brand/name was "Zircon" or something like it - there was even a little diamond-shaped plastic gem on the back of the clubhead.

1) Anyone know off the top of their head if this is legal or not?
2) Anyone know a list of legal, or a list of outlawed, clubs that I could search to figure this out?

Again, I'm just really wondering about this, because if it is legal I can't imagine why I've never seen one like it.

not sure about Zircon...but there was a company awhile ago that made "PureSpin" wedges which was supposed to have like...diamond encrusted all over the club face... my dad used it for awhile and reverted back to his 588. Just another gimmick... I have heard its legal though.

Edwin Watts used to sell those things. The head felt like an emery board, but I was told they were legal.

I think its a wedge made by Knight golf......has diamonds on the face or cubic zirconia's, more specifically.

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

I have an old DWGolf purespin wedge, with the diamond face. Thing did spin like crazy if you nailed it just right, but no more than a traditional wedge. I picked it up used for like 1$. Legal as far as I know.

i know this is an old thread but i figure i would chime in for future "search" reasons....

I have been using the Pure Spin  SW for 8 years and I LOVE it...Like it so much that I have added another 2 PS wedges in my bag...  they are not really a "gimmick" ..People like to say they are a gimmick club because of their infomercials.... But they forget that golf infomercials were unheard of when these came out...Pure Spin pretty much kick started the golf gear informercials.

Anyway, I can give you some input from someone that is STILL using these wedges today...If you buy them cause you see the pro backspin the ball in the commercial and you think your gonna do it without the proper technique, then you are foolish and only kidding yourself.....  But If your looking for a REALLY good set of wedges for  under $60, these are GREAT!!   These might not create the back spin like the commercial shows, but with a good Callaway or titliest ball it will stop the ball on the green everytime!!      They are perfectly legal an in my personal opinion, these are worth every penny they cost.

.........In My Bag........
Driver = FT-IQ Tour
2,3,4 = Iron/Wood = Bazooka Jmax

Putter = T.P. Mills
Irons = A4 OS..Wedges = Pure Spin..Cart Bag = .....Stand Bag = Bennington

    • I'll say again… you have a different definition of "temporary" and "speed" than I do. For your handicap to go up FOUR shots means you were through the soft cap and approaching the hard cap. If you did it over 15 rounds (leaving five potentially lower scores), then you played REALLY bad golf over that stretch because it's likely that only three or four of the best of those 15 rounds were actually counted, so if the three or four best scores RAISED your handicap five shots (three at 100%, 2 at 50% once you hit the soft cap), then that's some BAD golf over an extended (not temporary) period of time. And here's the thing… play 15 good rounds, or even just EIGHT, and it'll DROP again, even faster. Handicaps still drop faster than they rise, not only because of the way we calculate it (best 😎 but because of the caps. Right… it's not like you're not needing the shots. You're playing really badly, and your handicap is still lagging behind your play.
