I am the new proud owner of Titleist AP1 irons that I somehow committed to without realizing that I might have options. I arranged a fitting with a PGA pro the other day and when I went out to the range and hit balls on a launch monitor, it never occurred to me that the set of Titleist fitting irons that were used in my session were actually the irons that I'd be buying in the end. We didn't try different clubs. Now I clearly remember the pro wearing a Titleist golf shirt. I hit the irons well; very well, in fact. Maybe I shouldn't complain. Titleist is good equipment, isn't it?

They're great. But you do realize that whoever the pro is sponsored by - he'll be pushing that equipment.

I hope you have good experiences with your irons. Sounds like Titleist makes a good product but has a sneaky way of pedalling them.

No. Dumb ass that I am, I did not realize it. I thought pro shops sold a variety of clubs and that the pro shop pro would recommend the best club available under the circumstances. By taking choice out of the equation, the pro probably did me a favor. After all, these many different clubs are roughly the same clubs when it gets right down to it; aren't they?

The AP1's are great clubs, if you are hitting them well, just enjoy them. You made a good choice.

As long as you're happy with the choice then no worries. Hitting a slew of different clubs can make the process confusing in a hurry if you're not careful, and if you don't have a consistent swing.

Did the Pro offer any feedback or insight into either different brands or set-up options for the AP1's? Wearing a titleist shirt doesn't automatically make one an advocate for only one brand.

Good luck with your purchase - you may need to change your username now - good luck with it rhyming :)

No need to worry, sir. Great set of irons.
I loved the feel, but didn't care too much about the bulkiness.

True story: I was in GG with my wife the other day, discussing clubs and I walked over to a set of AP1's and said: "These are the clubs I'm going to get when I'm too busy, or too old, sore or injured to practice like I do"

I've hit AP1's. Best GI iron made IMO.

I hit every GI iron out there multiple times (no fitting though) and I was set on mizunos until I said eh, lemme try a titleist iron. I didnt think they had an iron I could hit. I love mine. That's me though. I plan on getting them fitted to me though and adjusted if need be

Wow! All of your comments make me feel good about my purchase. As I said initially, I hit them really well on the range and compared to my Ping Eye 2's which I had with me for comparison the AP1's felt like forged irons. And, I was averaging about 12 yards more in distance. I've decided to go ahead and have the shafts spine aligned. When I get a couple of rounds behind me I'll report in. Thanks guys. Oh, by the way, I gave the pro my Pings to have him install new grips. After 26 years and some terrific shots in my treasure chest of golfing memories, I ain't a givin' 'em up just yet.

After hitting a variety of irons, I went with the AP1's. I wouldnt trade them for the world.

The distance probably comes from a stronger lofting. The AP1's I have match with my old set except they're one number off. Meaning my 4iron has I believe 23* of loft where my 3 iron used to have 23* of loft. all the way through to the strong ass 45* pitching wedge. My 9 iron used to have 45*. So take the distance gain with a grain of salt. That being said i hit my 4 iron Ap1 1000 times more accurately than my old 3 iron. Im actually looking for a 3 iron AP1 with a matching shaft of what I have now on ebay. I kinda want their gap wedge too even though I have a vokey gap wedge.

Well, now I'm going to throw all of you a curve ball. I have decided to have these new clubs, which I've not yet even tried out in a regular round, shipped directly to a company in Florida that will align and pure the shafts, check all the specs and return my clubs to me. I presume that this is a good move. Everyone I've talked to says this makes a qualitative differendce and should be done. What does everyone else think?

I think it's completely unnecessary. But it won't hurt, and it's your money.
