What do you do when it gets dark and you have two holes left for a great round? Just a general question but it comes up a lot and sometimes I want that score for my handicap and I end up playing it in the dark with easier swings and accurate 7 iron tee shots. I end up with a bogey but hey I finished. What do you find yourself doing? glow in the dark balls?

I try to play as long as i can. The moment i cant see the ball fly is when i finish up the hole and call it off. I'f ive played through 13, i give myself a score for the rest of the holes and a 18 hole score - per the rules of golf

I will mark down the score that I think I would get... It can be based on how I've played during this round, or how I've played the course before.
If I've been sticking the par 3's and par 5'sall day then I'll mark a par if the last two have 3's or 5's. If my back nine has a bunch of bogeys on the par 4's and the last two contain a par 4, I might give myself a bogey for the 4.

Even par through 9 is my best.  I don't even want to think about what was my worst.

For handicap purposes you can enter an 18 hole score as long as you played at least 13 holes. The scores used for holes you did not play depends on those holes' handicaps and your course index - you can search for more info if you're interested.

Why yes, actually that's exactly what I do

I have the opposite problem, I usually tee off very early in the morning, and it's tough to see my first hole, and sometimes the tee shot on the second.

What do I do you ask... I just pull out my yellow Srixon Z-Star and play away... haven't lost one yet. They don't glow in the dark... but they're the next best thing

Cheers, Allan

I can't remember how many great rounds I've lost due to rain or darkness. It's something I just have to live with. In fact, I was +2 after 11 holes last weekend but it rained so hard we had to leave the golf course.

    • When I got to Florida this season (seasons instead of years since the years overlap) one of the guys asked what I had done, said I was about twenty yards longer with my driver. Said that I had a different driver which was true but looking back it’s really the shaft that’s been the difference. It’s similar in principle to the Autoflex in that it’s light weight and also light flex. Since most of my clubs are bought used I have difficulty finding senior shafts most of the time and being old and slow that’s what I need. Bought the Callaway driver, for several years I preferred Ping drivers, because they only had a couple of used drivers with senior shafts in my price range and it’s been probably the best I’ve had. Longer and very forgiving, decent distance even on my mishits and almost always in play. Keep in mind that my swing speed is probably under 70mph.
    • Day 17 - First round of the year. It took me about 6 holes to remember how to hit off grass. Short game was lacking, but the round could’ve been much worse. It’s nice that my new “bad” is my old “good.”
    • Yes this was what I was thinking you have two golfers same 5 HC same swing speed 110Mph ...one you changed the driver head to a 10yr old model head but the same loft etc the other you changed shaft ...now if its just 10yr old shaft of the same flex weight etc it would be more so the newer head IMHO ..but if the shaft was changed to softer flex lighter than player was use to then the shaft would be the winner IMHO
    • Interesting as I only recently upgraded my Callaway EPIC Flash driver head 9.5 with a Paradym 10.5 which come with a decent Diamana 60 stiff shaft ... year ago I was playing around with shafts and settled on Ventus black X6 .. I tried out both shafts in my new driver head and even tried out Diamana in my older driver head and no way did it work for me ... I also recently after having issues with my Mizuno. MP20 nippon 105 S irons I purchased new JPX923t with heavier shaft DG 120 S I was told by PGA coach the shaft would suit my swing far better and he wasn't wrong so for me shafts matter alot more so than even heads but the difference in the heads for my clubs wasn't massive
    • Day 13 (22 Mar 25) - Gripped down short pitches (20yds or less)  with the 7i in the backyard.  Focus was simple - grip down to just above the bare shaft, quiet wrists, quiet hands and a smooth putter like stroke with ample torso turn.  Love those low flighted shots!
