I decided to do a little test in regards to a balls impact on score. I hear a ton of people (including myself) dogging top flites and pinnacles. I decided to play a couple of rounds with a the cheapest i could get. Happened to be a 15 pack of Top Flite XL distance balls. I played two 18 hole rounds with them and honestly my score didnt suffer at all. They felt harder and didnt spin as much, but not as bad as one might think. Short and mid irons checked and rolled maybe 3 or 4 feet. Drives really didn't go longer and accuracy was typical for me. All in all i was surprised. I have always liked some of the higher end top flites but never the distance ultra cheep balls. I guess ill stop throwing them into the woods when i find them. I honestly dont think they negatively impacted my score at all.

Thoughts?

2-piece low compression golf balls will roll more and spin less, i think they will fare better in softer and slower greens which many public courses will offer. But when we play at harder and faster greens, a 3 or 4 piece high compression premium ball will help more than the 2-piece counterpart since high compression ball should spin more and easier to control on short games.

The advantage of high compression balls on short games will drop somewhat in softer and slower green than that of low compression balls.
