who KNOWS whats up with the whole ball seam thing because i keep hearing conflicting reports and I want clarification... i have a feeling that it really doesnt matter but im curious if anyone actually knows for sure the deal.

my background knowledge on seams is what follows..

When the first pro v 1 came out everyone "seamed" to be stoked on the fact that when you tee it up and align the ball so the face hits the seam.. accuracy is heightened.

Now, according to me, seaming the ball can be done in 2 ways...when i tee the ball up i usually face the or in this case since i just switched to the Pentas, the insignia facing the sky.. which also makes it so the face is hitting the seam. on the other hand, if you turn the ball 90 degrees either direction so the company insignia is now PERPENDICULAR to my stance line, the seam is also exposed to the face (this was the initial way to seam the ball when people first started doing this) i do this mainly because i usually mark my ball around the company name and i dont like it when the marker comes off on the face of my club.. as it would if the company print was exposed to the face. is there any difference in doing this? am i nuts for even thinking of this? I hope my explanation is clear as to the two ways the ball can be 'seamed' on the tee.

That being said. I have heard that hitting the pentas AWAY from the seam is better and that hitting them on the seam tends to have an unpredictable flight pattern.. i have not really noticed this but i am a stickler for accuracy off the tee and i am definitely capable of spraying tee shots. so, to seam or not to seam? what is the deal? does it even make any smidgen of a difference whatsoever? any science behind the seam issue? or should i just forget about the whole seam thing and just go practice chipping and putting more than i already do? haha.

sigh......

There's no scientific proof whatsoever that the seam h as any effect... its all in the mind.

There have however been multiple tests frmo USGA on balls with seams, which indicates that the variance is so little that its negligible...

Like i said in the other thread, I'll take USGA's controlled testing over what some midhacapper has to say about the "different results" he gets. I'll listen when someone who can mechanically replicate the EXACT swing twice in a row.
