How about 7 woods. I want a club that goes about 200-210 yards and high enough to hit a tight green or on a par 3. I've been thinking about getting a 7 wood (never had one before).

I have a 2 and a 3 hybrid but the 2 goes too far and too low and the 3 won't go far enough. Any suggestions all?

Thanks

Rick

I used a Callaway Heavenwood (RCH-96) for about three years!

Perfect for ~200 yard par 3's. The ball would just float up and land on the green- I loved it.

Now I get the same results w/ my Nickent Ironwood and I'm able to use it in more situations than the 7-wood.

I use a 7 wood although I only carry it about 185. You didn't say what type of hybrid you are using. The more wood like ones like adams go higher. I recently demoed a Bobby Jones hybrid, it was great, went pretty high, but I just have confidence in my 7 wood.

So knock-down, what is the Ironwood a hybrid. What number and do you hit it high? I have a 2 hybrid that goes a long way but it is a very low, boring flight. Is that unusual?

Yeah, it's a 3+ 18.5* hybrid.

http://www.nickentgolf.com/pr_iw_3dx-01.shtml Actually, I can hit it high or low depending on the situation - it's very easy to control- IMO. I use it from the tee, fairway, the rough and even the sand. I have no problem hitting a burried (in the rough) ball 200 yards....with some decent trajectory. Before I used the hybrid from the rough, I would burn a four iron and pray that it came out straight and didn't dip.

So knockdown...it's got a little less loft than a 3 hybrid (usually 19)...what kind of shaft to you have? That's cool that you can hit it high or low. 200 yards out of the rough...must be coming out hot. Or is that carry with some height?

I have the standard Nickent Speed-rated graphite shaft (stiff).

From the rough, it does not come out hot. And that's what amazes me. I'm a digger and this club allows me to use that as a strength from the rough. Maybe all hybrids are like that...but this is the only one I've tried. The only problem I have with it is when I try to use it from 185 yards (or so) and I swing too lightly resulting in about 125 yards of carry. But that's my fault! I should be using my five or six iron.

i have an old heavenwood and i love it on tight courses for driving, it is also very good for getting out of rough and not goofy looking like many hybrids. i am a tradtionalist, so i prefer it over a hybrid.

    • I had a few tweeks in the bag. I took out my Mizuno pro FliHi 3 iron replaced it with a Titleist GT2 7 Wood. what a change that is, so easy to hit, it goes so high without it ballooning on me. I couldn't get rid of my callaway woods ( Rogue ST Max LS ) but changed the shafts to Diamana BB 63 stiff for the driver and 73 stiff for the 3 wood. Than i got myself a new putter Odyssey S2S jailbird yes i joined the centershaft family
    • First off all i think you should use the same ball all the time. We all strive for consistency on the course, the only factor you can be sure it will be always the same is your ball if you always use the same. So i think we should always use the same. I recently switched from Titleist Pro V1x to Srixon Z-Star Diamond because it i get a bit softer feel around the greens and same results on driver and irons
