this morning as i was taking out my clubs i closed the trunk door on my own pinkie finger. It bled pretty bad, and the nail is half black now. It's the pinkie on my left hand. If anyone here has had the same thing happen to them, will I be able to play at all?

Rub a little dirt on it you sissy.

It may swell on you if you play... I have played with a thumb with the same injury and gave up after the front nine... this was back in the days where I got mad at myself for playing poorly and got all huffy, however, so I may have just used that as an excuse. Can't remember if I truly couldn't play.

Even par through 9 is my best.  I don't even want to think about what was my worst.

It's only your little finger.

I sprained my ring finger playing soccer and tried to play in a competition the next day. Had to withdraw after 9, I couldn't grip the club properly.
Just try to stick your little finger out instead of trying to grip it normally.

Try and swing with a golf club and see how it goes. Just try and make sure you're not making too many adjustments with the rest of your body. I cut my pointer finger on my left hand a couple months ago, and tried to swing some with the club after it healed a little. Everything felt ok, until one swing resulted in a pop in my left knee as soon as I made contact with the ball. I was on the ground in 1.8 seconds flat (I had my friend time me). Turns out I dislocated my knee. Took me 2 months to recover from it, and I still wear a brace from time to time.

So if nothing feels out of the ordinary, I say you should have no problem with golfing with that finger. Just make sure to ice it a bit and don't do too much with it. Otherwise, take a week or so off from golf and it should be good enough to keep playing with no problems. If you play with it now, it'll take longer to heal. That I know for sure.

I would guess that if you club up and swing easy you should be OK. The only time you should really feel anything in the left pinky is on the back swing, and start of the downswing. Just make sure to take the next club, and swing easier. As a contractor I beat the crap out of my hands on a regular basis, and this strategy works for me. If it was the same injury to the pointer, or middle finger, I'd probably take a week or two off.

I dont think you understand how much that finger will hurt when you start swinging that hand and pushing blood into that tip. My guess is you're going to throb city. Be ready.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.
