argh...

It is pretty easy to map courses, add points on existing courses and modify any mapped points. Be sure to back up your files to you computer so you will protect your changes. Sorry to hear you have a Mac only. I have both and prefer the PC any day.

+1, SubPar says it all, it can not get any easier with iGolf!

I was wondering if anyone has tried any of the others ie Golf Buddy, Golf Guru, Sonogolf.

Outside of the soon to be released uPro/uPlay, the Golf Guru looked nice.

I got it, I love it.

Like I said, I have Parallels so I have both Mac and PC in one machine. I simply launch the igolf app under parallels when I need to. But I'd rather have a native OS X interface. No biggie. I'm an IT Professional and have used Macs, Windows PC's and UNIX boxen most of my life, and given the choice, will alway choose to spend time with OS X over Windows.

. . .I'm just getting "up" on golf GPS units but from what I've read Sky Caddie is by far and away the best unit to get. My thought is if you are going to spend a few hundred dollars on one of these get the good GS5! You can get it on Ebay for $350.00 where it normally retails for $429.00.

Ok, I LOOOOOVE my neo - I haven't been spoiled by the feature bloat of the bigger/better units so I don't know what I'm missing and I don't care.

My one gripe?

The unit does not shut off automatically - and I always forget at the end of a round. Meaning, unless I remember to check the night before a round I have a dead battery.

It would be nice if the unit powered off or at least went into hibernation if there aren't any buttons pushed after an hour or so.

I have a question about the neo. When you go from a green to the next tee does the unit automatically go to the next hole, or do you have to manually tell it to, and if you have to manually tell it to, how long until it loads the info? Are you standing there waiting for the thing to load or is it fast? Thanks

you have to manually advance. my experience is that the hole switching is instant.

Again, I never tried any other units - so I don't have anything to compare with. I got the neo for $139 which is about half what other devices cost at minimum. It does everything I want/need and more (I haven't messed with adding in custom points or left/right on greens. I use it for front/back/center and to measure the distance of my shots.

Thanks for the answer, one more question. I notice it gives you 4 custom points each hole. Now, If i go to igolf and download a course and not do anything else, will it give me those custom points as well as the f/b/c or are the custom points just things that I enter myself. By downloading a course from igolf is it going to give me distances to doglegs and bunkers and stuff like that? Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry, Finn, I haven't gotten that far into it, so I can't give you an answer that I wouldn't be making up.

The 3 courses I've used the maps for did not have any custom points - but I can't say that means none do.

In addition to FCB, the iGolf usually has a couple of points like bunkers programmed, and it is easy to add more if you want.

I got my SG3 off of eBay last week for 240 incl shipping. I've used it once so far and really like it. It may be more of a novelty than anything else unless I can find my swing, though. What does it matter if I'm 165 to the front and 178 to the pin when I can't hit the ball straight lately...

really cool system though... batteries supposed to last 12 hours-- not quite, at least not with the 2 that came with it...

I got a golfguru, $210 on ebay.

I tried it on the course and found it to be great. The green sense feature is great. It took about a round to get used to taking it out, and how to advance the features, etc.

But now, I am using it to determine the best length shot for hitting that pin 2 paces on.

I really like the continuous display of distance to the green along with the distance of that last shot. The warmup is really quick and so far I have never lost a signal.

I must admit is kinda weird getting the distance to the first green from the practice green or the parking lot.

You won't be sorry. The value/performance is hard to beat. The choice was a no-brainer for me.

I guess if money wasn't an object I would have considered some of the more expensive units.

I got my SG3 on eBay for 180 shipped. Its basically an OEM version which means it does not come with the software, whihc is afree download anyways. Its like buying just a hard drive for 100, or the retail box version for 150.

Loveing it so far.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
