Has anyone played these before? I can get a set off craigslist right now for dirt cheap, but could only find a few reviews online.

I had a set last summer, they were fantastic but I gave them to my brother because of a wrist injury that was flaring up, and because he loves blades. I missed them all year and a couple months ago I picked up a brand new MT Pro-CM set (small cavity 3-6, MB 7-W). I hit them as well as I've hit anything, fantastic feel, and look great at address. If I had to pick a favorite of my 3 iron sets it would be the MacGregors.

Thanks for the info, I've never played blades before, so I'm a little worried I won't hit them well. But they are on Craigslist right now for only $120.

If they're in any kind of reasonable shape that's a steal. Sold reasonably well at $799, and the price dropped to $399 and they got snatched up. So there are still deals to be had on NIB sets like Pro-CMs I got for $251 6-7 weeks ago. I'm giving you solid "Buy It" recommendation.

I just picked them up today, the clubs look beautiful. Excited to test them out.

I played them last year. Those suckers are hard to hit! Sure do look nice though. Traded them for some G5's. Good luck.

That's what worries me, they don't look very forgiving, but I'll take the risk how how cheap they came.

I went to the range by me that has grass hitting available, and tested them out. At first I was hitting a lot of awful shots, not hitting the center of the club, but got used to them eventually and really started to like the feel. I'll have to wait till I go out on the course on Saturday to give a real review, but so far I'm liking them. Great looking clubs as well, I love the classic look.

They're beautiful, and not very forgiving (but more than 1970's or 1980's era blades), but I think you'll be ok. They certainly exposed (and still do) flaws in my swing, especially if I'm pulling my head up or leaving too much weight back. But if you keep taking them to the range I think you'll end up loving them. My brother was about your skill level last summer, stuck with them and has shaved about 4-5 strokes off his game.

I forgot to mention that the set was actually listed wrong, it is a set of MT PRO CM's. So, the longer irons are more forgiving..which I like, never tried a combo set before. I went out on the course with them for the first time and was really loving them, the only thing is that I seem to have lost some distance but I'm hitting them with better control which is more important. I shot an 84 at the course, which is better than my average. Hopefully I can get the distance sorted out.

The distance will come with practice-sweet spot is small on these clubs. I've got the CM set also-great, great sticks.

Yea, I was surprised to see how small the head of the clubs were when I first got them. It didn't come with a 3 iron, so I'm going to have to keep an eye on Ebay for that.

Might want to get a bigger 3 iron to help get it up. I've been eyeing this set FOREVER. They are $250 brand new on eBay and have been tempting me since last year. I bought my new Nike VR splits over them because I got to hit the splits and never got to hit the MT's. Distance loss might also be due to weaker lofts in the MT's versus your old irons. Don't worry about that as long as you are accurate.

I like the 3 iron a lot, but it's not easy, requires an aggressive, firm, accurate stroke-otherwise you'll just with you hit your 4 or 5 iron.

Maybe I am crazy, but I thought the muscle backs were actually easier to hit than the cavity backs!

The MBs aren't difficult to hit, but I definitely find the CB 3 and 4 irons easier to hit than the MB counterpart...but, I'm also comparing MBs with the Nippon shafts to CBs with Dynamic Golds.

    • I know one recent college grad who's trying the same thing.  This guy was a Division III All-American, went on to play one year at Division I LSU, and is not working hard.  He won the Gulf States Open, a pro event, and made it to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour School late in the fall.  And didn't make the cut to get to the final stage.  I won't talk about swing or play stuff, but I believe there are a couple of things that are essential.  Obviously, talent, and drive, or work ethic.   I can't tell you how to do it, but you HAVE to get through it.  Golf is going to be your life, and it takes lots of work. Two more things that are really critical.  You'll need the facility to be able to practice.  My young friend stayed in Baton Rouge, as a past player on the team he can still use the LSU practice facilities.  And money.  Its unlikely you'll be able to work a full-time job and practice the way you will need to.  You'll probably need backing, from a parent, from a consortium of friends or club members., something to support you. Good luck, its not an easy path, but anything is possible.  Another young man from our area, Mike Brennan, just won for the first time on the "big" PGA Tour.
    • No one in the world is as smart as Phil thinks he is.
    • Get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. If you don’t like practicing then give up now. You don’t have the passion to become a pro. Unless that mentality changes you won’t do well under stressful situations.    Call the PGA Tour and ask. They probably have resources available.

    • Thanks man, sometimes it’s hard to improve bc when I’m not feeling comfortable I don’t like practicing bc I get frustrated. Any advice?
