I played on Sunday and was hitting the ball great !! 15 out of 18 fairways were hit and right down the middle nearly i might add but when it came to 100yards of the flag i was useless!! i just dont understand it.

Usually my short game is my strength especially from say 100 yards out but on Sunday it looked like i was a complete newby to the game. Why is this?

I wouldnt say i was suffereing from a lack of confidence as i was only 1 over for the first 3 holes but after that it all went down hill because of my short game.!!! Can anyone shed any light on why my strength is suddenly my weakness? is there anything i can do? or do i just need to get back out there and correct this?

I gotta ask, doesn't your course have any par 3's. 18 fairways? How do you hit 15 fairways when there are only 14 fairways on a golf course?

You got hcp 15, so you won't play pars and birdies on each hole! If you always had perfect tee shots and perfect short game ect, you would have a much lower hcp

Either way it sounds like a pretty good driving day. I used to have the same problem long and strong with the driver and absolutely no short game. Then I spent several months working on the short game at the expense of the long game and I developed a solid game inside 100 yards and then started to hit the driver all over the place. I then found a good practice routine that let me work on both and I finally saw improvement in my scores. Golf is funny like that, one day something in your game is working great and other parts completely stink.

Go back to the drawing board, so to speak......in other words, get on the practice range and hit a bucket of two and find out what you're doing wrong. May be just a minor thing, like timing off or something. Another thing is to concentrate on scoring and not your swing. Forget about everything but hitting the ball on the green, getting as many GIRs as you can in a round. On the scorecard, put a check or GIR under each score and try to get as many as you can in a round and see how you improve!

I feel your pain. I had my best round ever at an easy course last Wednesday and today even though I putted pretty well and kept the ball in play out of the tee box I just couldn't hit a thing from 120 yards or less. This was probably the most frustrated I have been in months.

Oh well, it gives me an excuse to mess around with equipment at least :)
