Winter is coming here in Sweden and the golf seasone is coming to an end. It feels sad and I need something to get me through it.

One idea is to buy a game console with some nice golf game. I've seen some demos of "Tiger Woods 07" for Xbox 360 and it looks quite impressive. Hoever, the Nintendo Wii seems to get a cooler controller which you might be able to swing realistically. However, the golf games coming for the Wii looks like they target children with cartoonish graphics.

Any ideas on what I should choose? Do you think something like TW07 will be available for the Wii? Or will the Wii not have the graphics power needed?

What is the best computer golf game you've played? Most fun? Most realistic?

I have an XBox 360, and I'll let you know how Tiger Woods 2007 is this weekend or in the near future. I'll hopefully be getting the game in the next couple days. The XBox 360 has been great so far, as I've had it for 6 months or so.

I'm not sure if Tiger 2007 is going to be released on the Wii or not. I don't believe it will be. Tiger 2008 will probably be the first for that console. It sounds like it would be a lot of fun though if it was released for the Wii.

I don't think you can go wrong with the PS3 or XBox 360, although the XBox 360 is a lot cheaper. That's why I went with it.

There are just the two, really: Super Swing (or whatever it's called) and the Wii Sports one. Even Super Monkey Ball has a mini-golf game in it. But...

The Wii has better graphics than the GameCube, and I agree with Nintendo - we're at the point where improved graphics quality is getting silly. Games are about having fun, not about staring in awe at graphics. It's nice to have the latter and the former, sure... but you can spend $600 for a PS3 and still not improve

that much on the Wii's graphics. Tiger Woods 2007 is coming to the Wii, and if what EA has done with Madden's control scheme is any indicator, will make excellent use of the Wii controller. I'm getting a Wii and probably not an XBox 360 or a PS3 because I expect the controller will be the "winner" in this round of systems. What developers have already managed to do with it is beyond impressive.

Tiger Woods wins in all counts, but if by "most realistic" you mean you're gonna have trouble breaking 90, none win. Even Tiger Woods is a bit too "arcadey" for my tastes. It's the best out there, but I wish it truly had a "sim" mode where you weren't regularly shooting 48 or 50.

It is. EA has said before Christmas, but I'm not entirely sure that's true. There's no release date set for Tiger Wiids 2007, as I've taken to calling it.

If you want something _now_, naturally, the Wii may not cut it if you're looking only to play TW2007. But if that's your plan, I recommend buying a PS2 and playing it. Buying a new system for one game might be silly (was not the case with Super Mario 64).

I've always been a Nintendo guy, but I took a chance on the XBox 360 this time around. I've liked it so far. There is definitely a chance I'll get a Wii sometime in 2007 though. I've always had a ton of fun with the Nintendo consoles, and some of the games would be a lot of fun. I can only imagine how great a tennis game could be.

I hadn't heard anything about Tiger 07 being released for the Wii, but I'll definitely check out the info when I see it. The system could definitely be the sleeper in this year's batch of consoles.

I saw a report the other day that had them ranked in order of what the experts were predicting as the success rate: XBox 360, Wii, and then the lowly PS3. Freakin $600!!! Are you kiddin me?

Thanks a lot for your insight guys. I'll probably go with a Wii and play the Wii Sports/Golf and Super Swing game until TW07 comes out.

Searching the net I've found some interesting links:

This one claims TW07 is coming to Wii in march 2007:

and here are some movies showing people playing Wii Sports/Golf:

Recently I got a demo of TW07 for 360. It's fantastic, one of the best and most realistic games i've ever played.

This now wins, the circle thing as the aimer makes it very hard, and when you are just starting as your created guy, the circle starts huge so it's alot harder. So it will be hard to break 90.

That's what I've heard. A guy I was talking to earlier said he shot an 87 at St. Andrews and an 84 at Sawgrass. I started salivating after hearing that news. This game might be great afterall. I just hope it takes a LONG time to improve your created golfer because those 87s could be replaced with 57s in no time.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
