Today we had our first high school match, and I did terrible. bleh.

The main thing that was just plain weird was that I was popping up my driver to the left. It felt as though I was getting right under the ball. Either that, or I was fade/slicing it. Afterwards, I asked my friend to look at my swing, and he told me that at the top of my swing, my hips started the turn way too much and left the face open...

I'm still not sure what to do. Any help?

Nobody on this forum could fix you without actually seeing what your normal swing looks like to begin with. Early hips without the hands and arms catching up could be the culprit though. Seeing that it was your first match, and mayby you were a tad nervous............. seems logical. The big muscles tend to take over under stress with some players. Just try to relax and enjoy the competition. Your a 8.6, so I think you could probably fix yourself in the next few matches as your comfort level grows.
