New set of iron

Hello all.
Im no expert in the golf club industry. Lately ive been looking for a new set of irons. I want something forged with a little bit more feel and feedback but still have a good amount of forgiveness

Top 3 things i want in an iron in order would be
1. Control and feel
2. Forgiveness and distance
3. look at address (dont care what the cavity looks like as long as it performces)

Anyone have any recommendations? Im a 6 HCP and a solid ball striker. I hit it close to center more than i miss, but i still want something to negate the loss of the misses

Looking at getting them around March or April next year but i need to schedule a fitting early. Any recommendations for me to test?

If I were you I'd look in to titelist or mizuno blades or players cavities. I can't recall and specific models (confusing numbers and such) but I'm sure other members can.

What shaft are you playing in the current irons? Shaft may determine a lot when it comes to #1 and #2.
Tried a set of Titleist 710 AP2 with KBS x-stiff shafts thinking I wouldn't be able to hit them but I was pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to hit. If you want to go with blades or a mix set, you might look into a Titleist 710 MB/CB combination. Also, the MP-68's are real nice if you go full blades. Adams CB1/CB2 are nice but they come 4-GW and not 3-PW. The R9 TP's are probably the easiest to hit compared to the rest I have mentioned and possibly the longests along with the Adams irons.

I definitley dont want a blade iron. In my short term experiences, those are a little too difficult to manage. I think a cavity back would suit my taste a little better

Also, i have S300's in my current irons

Soft, look like a blade at adress, and are more forgiving than most blade type irons. And they are forged for ya, play with standard lofts and you could get stock S300's in them if thats what you want. And they are extremely cheap on eBay right now, as I just bought 3-PW with S300's for 620$ new in wrappers and shipped. Such a steal for such sweet irons..

That seems to good to be true. AP2's are definitley on the list. They will definitley be in the running too i have a feeling

Ive heard Mizunos play really great too. Anyone here tried the new sets they released or any other 2011 players iron releases for that matter?

I'd also put the AP2 on a very short list for you. I could elaborate, but relentless beat that horse dead. They are solid feeling and a very good mix of forgiveness, performance and feel. You could also check out the new MP53, and the MP57/MP58. I've really enjoyed the MP58 in particular, although they are quite pricey (similar to the AP2).

The TM R9 TP is another good option in line with a players cavity, enis750 has a set here on the board and he seems to love them.

Be sure to try shafts from true temper, kbs and rifle if you can. The KBS seems to offer the blend of feel and accuracy that have split the dynamic gold and project x crowd for a while now.

Top 3 things i want in an iron in order would be

1. You'll get that from pretty much any forged head.

2. At a 6 handicap, I'd assume you're looking for something between a blade and a GI forged iron. Take the Mizuno MP 68 as the blade and the Mizuno JXP Pro. I'd say you're looking at something like the MP 53, MP 63, Titleist 710 AP2, 710 CB. 3. All the clubs mentioned above look fantastic at address and aren't far away from a blade style clubhead. You have a great amount of options. Just keeping this between Titleist and Mizuno, if you want a touch more forgiveness you can pick between the AP2 and the MP53. If you want a touch more workability (take the forgiveness tradeoff into account) then I'd go for the MP63 or 710 CB. Personally, I recommend the AP2s because I play them and love them. However, I'd say the best looking club on the market (excluding blades) are the MP63.

So far, i got the Titleist AP2, and Mizunos MP53
I had 2 other sets suggested to me. The new Callaway Forged and the Ping S57. Anyone care to share their thoughts on these sets?

You can always check out the Titleist 735.cm's. They are really a remarkable club in many regards but the best thing is they give you forgiving long and mid irons while going straight blade on the 8-PW. It is a very nicely blended set and you will be hard pressed to find anyone with a negative opinion on these sticks. Plus, you can scoop up a set for cheap since they were released a couple years ago. I know I will never sell my 735's and I still use the 2-4 iron when I feel swing sloppy.

That's from a Maltby test, right? When I first heard that I was surprised, in my own personal trials the X Forged has always seemed very unforgiving. More so than many blades.

I would even recommend the Nike Split Cavity irons. You will be surprised of their ability to work the ball so well and you still have that forgiveness, not a lot but its there.

Ive been told by friends i play with that forged irons and blades needed to be struck virtually dead center to get consistent results

Unless im wrong, i just want a set that wont penalize me AS MUCH as a blade would, thats all

I'd say either I'm "almost scratch" (just being held back by the blades) or your friends are exaggerating.
