As I posted in another thread , I'm having major issues with my yardage gaps. After playing in a tournament this weekend and being completely lost as far as my yardages, I'm going to make a switch to the x100's. My driver swing is 112-115mph and I carry a 6 iron >170 yards right now (150 yards or less into any sort of head wind). After talking with a few people, everyone kind of agrees it's a combination of the shaft being too weak and the frequencies being off.

I have a set of x100 pulls, but am curious how stiff they actually play. The Mizuno shaft optimizer recommended I install them soft stepped 1x, but that was back in the spring and my swing has progressed since then.

Also, if you were to choose one, would you Pure the shafts or have them FLO'd? I don't want any reasons to blame my equipment for my poor performance, lol.

I should be getting my new irons in today that have X100 shafts in them. I will report back tonight after a range session. I too carry my 6 iron about 175, with a fade. Not sure on my driver SS, but I have an X Stiff 76gram shaft in my driver.

As I posted in your other thread, did you get your lofts and lies checked? What kind of irons were those again? Not sure how one gets to 6.7 without a pretty good grasp on distance control regardless of the lie, wind, elevation, whatever. Maybe you just have higher standards.

As my original post, all my lofts/lies were checked within the last couple of weeks and came back fine. They are mp52 irons.

I have a grasp on my distance control and what my clubs play to in general, but the gaps are extremely weird and into any sort of head wind I lose all control over distance. I had a shot this weekend that was 170 to hole, 160 to carry bunker with a slight head wind and a flyer lie in the rough. Perfect I figured...worst case I'm short a couple yards and putting for birdie. I landed 20 yards short of the pin square in the bunker and I hit what I thought was a great shot. It just fell out of the sky. As far as my standards go, I guess I do have high standards. Missing by 10-20 yards distance wise is unacceptable if I feel I hit a good shot.

Yea, I've seen the charts as far as how they compare to PX 6.0 etc...but none of that really means much to me. I'm looking for more of what they feel/play like than a number. I should just demo them, but unfortunately most places do not have a good selection of lefty heads and I do most fitting by trial and error.

but at that handicap he could get alot of up and downs

i have a simular clubhead speed to you and found the x100 too stiff. Mainly because not every shot is full throttle. is use S300u now..

always give way to the Greenskeeper!!

in my bag:
whatever clubs i find left behind on the course... But the Ping Anser will never be beaten!!

BALL: only get off tractor for PRO v1's..... Now, which way to Q School???

if you've got the swing speed for em(93+ with 6i) then they are fantastic. they are very stiff if not and launch very low. i'm at 96 with my 6i, i switched from s300 to x100 to lower my ball flight and i was missing alot of greens left. since then i love the x100 it flies a little lower for me with good spin and is much straighter.

I've been missing a ton of greens right (I'm lefty) and over drawing a lot of shots on top of having the trouble with distance control. I'm not a super hard swinger, especially with my irons. My 6i speed is right on the cusp, 92-94mph. I think I may go with soft stepped instead of a straight install. If they still feel soft, I'll just got with a straight install.

Ended up installing them without soft stepping and they feel great. Much more stable throughout the swing and easier to move the ball with less tendency to over draw/fade. Slightly lower ball flight, but not actually that noticeable. However, a much more penetrating shot overall. I may have picked up a 2-3 yards per club, but I haven't had enough time with them yet to make that determination.

Yesterday I had a 10mph wind in my face, 165 to center of green and had to play a high cut around a group of trees. I took 6 iron, being my 170 club, hit the shot well and actually flew the pin by about 10 yards. With the S300's, if I played a high cut into a headwind, I would have lost 10-15 yards. Everything just feels solid coming off the club now. Had two of my best iron days in a long time since I made the switch. Such a shame it's the end of the season!

    • Day 22 - 2026-01-11 More mirror work. Back outdoors tomorrow.
    • Day 11, 1/11/26.  Today was putting, along about 6' of carpet, with coins on the ground to keep me cognizant of what I'm doing.  I think this is the at-home drill from LSW. (Ugh, missed two of the last four days -- 1/10 and 1/8)
    • Day 9: 2026.01.11 Hit some balls at the range, concentrating on weight distribution at address, got some on film.
    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
