Here's another thought. In trying to get a real good hit, you're attempting to get more lag by holding onto your wrist cock well into the ball, but are instead only keeping the clubface open through impact, squaring it up too late.

I usually slice my driver if I rush the transition at the top of my swing, causing me to throw my arms out and come over the top.

Maybe you are just trying to swing the driver too hard (trying to hit it as far as you can) and that is causing you to start your downswing with your hands instead of hips and creating an OTT swing path.

Ditto. This is the most likely cause imho. You need to get onto an inside-to-outside path on the downswing. You're probably a little on the outside going back, which is OK. Many great players do that, but they ALWAYS drop the hands down a bit to get on the inside-to-out path at the start of the downswing. You have to come at the ball a little from the inside or you're gonna fade/slice the ball. Check out Erik's posts on the hip bump. It might help you like it helped me.

Do not despair, there is a cure.

Very low loft = not much backspin = side spin dominates. With the same swing, you can slice your driver in your sleep, yet work all day with your 9-iron and still not do it because the tremendous backspin that the 9 imparts on the ball swamps the sidespin your swing creates.

That makes sense. I've heard it before but not so clearly put. The driver is definitely the best "sensor" for swing issues, which is one reason you do want to hit driver a fair bit on the range. Before or after you spend a ton of time on or around the green of course. I wish I would better practice what I preach when it comes to chipping practice - sigh.

Was slicing my Hibore XL tour (9.5 2* open) stiff shaft, I play a draw through all my irons. I switched to a Callaway FT-i 10* draw Grafalloy Epic stiff. My miss is now a hook. I've gone back to the Hibore and I'm hitting it dead straight with a slight pull or push; I can play a slight draw or fade; still, I have a hard time setting up over the ball with this club (I used to love it), I no longer like the ball flight. What I learned from this experiment is that I need a shaft with a mid-low kick bias with slightly more loft (10*), with a head that feels comfortable. I have the i-mix, so I can play around with it; next head will be neutral and I already have a collection of shafts...

I think it's your set up, but perhaps playing around with the club will help.
