Stupid rule but then I've never known a club yet that didn't have a significant number of stupid people involved in the Club rules.

I liked this course because it was laid back.

the other two are nicer courses but the members are a lot more upper class. I'll have a talk with the captain about it, if not I'll play off the yellows until my handicap goes down to 14 (I'm playing off around 12 anyway but winter rules are in so I can't get my handicap cut) and play in the mens competitions. I don't like the idea of paying 10 euro per game though

Didn't they give a reason why? Don't you figure it's a speed-of-play issue? That's all I can think of. If a group of competent juniors showed that they could unobtrusively and efficiently get thru a round, perhaps you can get an exemption

Ok. You play congu handicap rules as I do in the UK, but you are GUI. Are you saying that for the winter all competitions are from the yellow tees? As that is normal, our winter league is non-qualifying for handicap (unless the committee cuts someone on general play), with that in mind it means the juniors play from the the yellows all winter as do all the men.
If you are saying that from the start of next season all men's comps will be from the yellow tee then that is a different matter, unless your course is a monster. I played at Druids Heath last year and we played the greens all winter (in front of yellows) but people still couldn't break par. I couldn't stay at a course that plays yellow tees all season. Also most clubs only allow juniors with handicaps lower than 18 to enter the men's comps. Have a chat with a committee member to see how it came about, perhaps the information has been relayed poorly?

handicaps 14 and below can play in mens competitions.

I'll just drop my handicap quickly next year and play in the mens.

sorry I thought you were an adult complaining of playing from the yellows not a junior wanting to play from the whites. I think it is normal that juniors would play their comps from the yellows.

Sounds like a pace of play issue. Perhaps many juniors are out there shooting 110 from the whites and slowing folks down. They force you to tee it up from the yellow to speed the pace of play. You get your handicap under 14 and tell them you will play from the whites, I bet you don't get much grief over it. It sounds to me that mid handicappers like you are not the target of said ruling. If you like the course, don't blow a bunch of smoke over it. Drop your handicap a few strokes over the winter and play from the whites next year. Great addition to this would be to play with some 18+ old folks in the process. Not only do you tee from the whites, but you might just learn something from the more experienced players at your club. This rule change is not a problem, this is a challenge and an opportunity.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
