I am going to Myrtle next weekend, and was thinking of buying a five wood. I will get fitted (never had this done before) for the club, but was wondering if anyone could explain the size differences in 3/5/7 woods across different manufacturers. For example, my current 3 wood has a 155cc head volume. A similar 3-wood by TM (r7 ti) is 186cc. Another club I want to try is the Rapture 5-wood, which is 192cc (according to their website).

So in essence, the Rapture 5-wood is larger than the Taylor Made r7 ti 3-wood?! Seems a little odd. I know there is a limit on drivers to be no more than 460cc, but is there a limit on 3/5/7 woods? An explanation will be helpful. Thanks.

The rapture fairway woods are manufactured out of titanium instead of steel. Because of this they can make the head bigger than traditional steel 3 woods. The same goes for the taylor made Ti. The reason for the difference between the Taylor made and the Ping, well you would have to ask the manufacturers that question. I have hit both and I prefered the rapture. I really like the rapture line and I am getting the driver, 3 wood, and 18* hybrid before next spring.

i noticed the rapture has a very deep face. must be great off the tee - how are they from the deck?

Got semi-fitted for a five wood at Martin's. They gave me two clubs to hit (titanium) - TM and Rapture (stock shaft - Regular). Did not hit the Rapture well at all. The TM I was smoking down the fairway, mostly straight. Ended up getting the TM 5 wood ti - this club is L O N G -- I ended up getting rid of my TM 3-wood steel, as this new club is longer....Tried the Rapture - I guess it's just not for me.

yea i have always found that TM metalwoods (v-steel, r7 etc.) tend to have shallow faces. I've hit the rapture 3-wood off a mat and found the face to be taller than id like. I think the reason behind this is that PING wanted a wood that would be more easy to hit off the tee, while Taylormade preffered fairway playablility. I think in general clubs that are more game-improvement (rapture, speed series, g5) tend to have larger clubheads for less pop-ups off the tee, where as a titleist and Tm club is marketed towards a better ball striker.
