Hey everyone!

I'm a golfer who grew up in central California, but have recently moved to Utah to finish some grad work at the University of Utah. I'm getting my MA in PoliSci right now, but am looking to go further east for my PhD. I took up golf about 7 years ago and have been hooked ever since. I might be only a novice, but I'm obsessed!

I'll tell you honestly, Utah is home to some of the most beautiful, most challenging, and (more especially) the most inexpensive golf courses I've ever seen. Most places in Davis County, Weber County, and Salt Lake County are about $34-38 per round! It's been great for my game, especially on a grad students budget! I even met a local player currently on the Tour and played a round with him. Those guys can hit.

Been listening to the Podcast and just had to join.

I am a "short knocker" - but, like Lukey-D, I think precision can be just as lethal as long ball.

Hope to get to know some fellow golfers - since we are the best people in the world.

Welcome to the forum!

Have to get to Utah and play.
Had one round at the Ranch Golf Club in San Jose, (second highest slope in the world from the back), with an older man who hit the ball laser straight every time, wasn't long but he had an eagle then a string of 3 birds in a row and just tamed that monster with precision, it was an eye opener.

But . . . who among us can hit the ball that straight and be so precise with approach shots LOL.

ps, the man was a sandbagger, gave an impression of just being a hacker, glad there was no bet involved, was an engineer and figured out every shot so precisely it was amazing.

Thanks RX!

San Jose is a great place. As you can tell, I'm a central valley-ite myself so I'm pretty familiar with that region.

Gotta love the long-bombers. I play with a roommate a lot, and he has the longest, most consistent drives I've ever seen. His driver is his most accurate club. I can burn him on short game, but his driver is unbelievable. It's rare you get a combination of both like John Daly (used to be), or Tiger.

Give me a choice and I'll take accuracy over distance any day. I constantly kick his can thanks to my wedges and putter.

p.s. I hate sandbaggers!

p.p.s. There must be something about engineers and golf. I know Bobby Jones had one of his degrees in Engineering, so I wonder if it's an advantage to have your brain work like that...

Thanks! Tombstone is a great flick. Best Western flick ever!
