Looking into some new iron sets. Just wanting to know a little about these clubs - pros, cons, etc. because most golf stores only tell you what you want to hear... Ping G10's come 3-PW, Wilson Di11's come 4-GW, and Wilson Ci9's also come 4-GW. All sets are the same price, $500. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

One last note: The G10's come with a 0.75° upright lie, or I can get 4-PW instead for $440 with a standard lie. I tend to hit the ball really high, and I'm pretty sure upright lie gives you a higher launch angle, correct? Thanks again for any and all feedback.

In the  Strata Bag:

3 Wood:  XL

Irons: 4-5:  AP1; 6-PW:  XL

Wedges:  Tour Grind, 52°/60°

Putter:  White Hot XG #9

Balls:  Mojo

If you are spending $500 the get fit for the clubs and hit some demos. I'm sure you would be better suited for a GI or SGI type club. As for the lie angle, that refers to the angle of your swingplane (the sole of the club) relative to ground. The taller you are the more upright clubs tend to be and the shorter the golfer the flatter the tendency in the lie. You seem to have lie and loft confused. The more you increase the loft of a club then the higher the balls trajectory will be.

Look for the Wilson Ci7's, they were the ones previous to the Ci9's and very excellent irons. You can probably get them for very cheap.

Getting fitted for the PINGs with the dot system is really easy and its free. I wouldn't just randomly buy the black (standard) or blue (.75 upright) dot clubs without knowing if they fit your swing. Just go to your local golf store (assuming they have the AFS or Iron Carts) and tell them you would like to be fitted. Should only take about 10 minutes to figure out what color dot you would need.

FYI...I have the G10s 3-6, purple dot (my local golf store filed for bankruptcy and screwed me over or I'd have 7-PW as well!!) and I love them. Very forgiving clubs...I highly recommend them!

    • Day 47: simulator day! Played St. Andrew’s and shot a +1. Not bad, especially with having to putt at this simulator set up. Had about 5 minutes at the end to work on some feels as well.
    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.

    • So the question was posed today by some of my friends.  Is a pitch mark the same as a divot?  I thought NO, but they argued if your ball lands in another player's divot (made by club during a swing) this was the same as a pitch mark, i.e. the ball mark made when the ball lands
