I've been trying out new irons lately and D-Day is here. For me, its between Mizuno MP-53 and Titleist 710 CB. I hit them both and they both felt great, I can't say I noticed any differences when it comes to feel. I'm only getting a 5-PW set, so the 5 and 6 iron are of most concern to me. I know I could benefit from the 5-6 iron in the MP53 set being easier to hit, but I think the 7-PW is a wash. Thoughts....? I had the decision made up until last night. I really want the Titleists but.....

You're facing what I faced when I swapped out irons 18 months ago. There's lots of fine iron sets out there, and there probably four others besides X20s I could play quite well, as long as they had the proper shaft.

Also, in what way are the MP53 5i and 6i "easier to hit" ? Do they feel better, fly better, what specifically?

If you've done the tests and the performance comes out about the same, go with the ones that "feels best."

The 5, 6, and 7 irons on the MP-53's have a pocket cavity. I wouldn't say the Titleist 5 and 6 irons intimidate me. I can hit them solid and straight, but distance consistency is what I struggle with on those clubs so thats what I'm concerned about. I know the Mizunos are better for me but those Titleists are just so awesome looking.

Have you thought about a mixed set of AP-2 and CB?

I never really liked the look of the AP2's so I never hit them. I'm a little ocd when it comes to my clubs. My wedges have to be the same brand as my irons, so the thought of 2 different models for my irons really bothers me.

I would say you can't go wrong with the set that gives you the most peace of mind when you are over the ball. Personally I would say go with the Mizunos, because it seems like they are your logical choice over the Titleists, just because of the thoughts you have on the long irons. Plus, those mp53's are dead sexy.

I went with the Titleists for several reasons. Mainly because they are the same style as the irons I have now in terms of profile and I dont have many problems with the longer irons. The most important thing is I got them from TGW which was having a 15% off plus free shipping. Normally, on golfsmith at least, I haven't been able to get their deals to work with Titleist or any good stuff really but I got it so it ended up to be a sweet deal.

I tried, acquired, and finally settled on:

mx 25
ping G2
mx 200
ping G15
Callaway X 18 pro

the best irons I have ever hit are the AP1's... 4-pw DG R300 SL
AP2 .... gap wedge

So that I would retain my fluid and non attacking swing, I had them soft stepped...just so easy to hit and very forgiving
my handicap is a 12...I hope this helps in your decision

If I decide to rework this setup, I will go as follows: AP1 4-7
AP2 8-pw and keep my current gap wedge

Driver: Wishon 959 OL v2 reg 10.5*
fw wood 949 mc 16.5 4 wood

irons: AP1 5- gap GS 95 regular

What is soft-stepping and how much does it cost?
