This is my first post on the sand trap! I've been lurking/reading for a while, but this is my first post.

A little about me/my game: I've been playing golf for about 10 years but have only been playing seriously for the last two-three. I'm about a 12-14 handicap. I will have rounds in the low 80s and the occasional round in the low 90's...but mostly shoot mid 80s. I have been struggling with my ballstriking consistency, especially with my long irons. My normal misses with the long irons are thin and/or fat shots as well as the occasional blocked/faded shot. This is kind of odd because I normally hit a slight draw with my short irons and woods. So due to my lack of confidence I hardly hit my 4i and never hit my 3i. I want to take the 3i (and maybe the 4i) out of the bag and replace it with a hybrid.

I normally hit my 4i about 200 yds and have a large gap between my 4i and my 5W that I hit about 225-230 yds.

I also dont have a 3W...so I have another large gap between my 5W and my driver, which I normally hit about 280 (I fly it about 250-260).

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Nick

Isn't it fairly straight forward? Get the 3 wood if you need to fill the driver and 5 wood gap. Get a 21° hybrid and 24° if you want to replace your long irons.

Worked for me. I find the hybrids easier to hit. -Dan

thanks for the responses. I was really just looking for the approximate lofts I would need to replace a 4i and/or 3i.

What dont you like about hybrids? I do love the control you get with irons...but i just hit the 3i and 4i so inconsistently.

I wouldn't define hybrids to narrowly, there are considerable differences. I prefer the more wood lke, almost trouble wood types. Better players often replace five woods with one of these. With your club head speed, or if you like to work the ball, the ones that are more iron like might suit you better. When comparing them, make sure the lofts and shaf lengths are similar. Some clubs use shaft lenghts similar to the same iron, often with stronger lofts. More often the loft will not be very different but the shaft may be 1-1/2 inches longer.
