I have used a long putter (47.5") since 1994. THe right hand stays on left side of your sternum and the left elbow moves with the putterhead. The stroke should be on a slight curve....not straight back/straight through. Also right hand should be "light" and tension-free. Keep your head steady and trust it

I have used a long putter for 20 years. I had the yips so bad in my late teens and early twenties it was the only thing that saved me.
The long putter in my opinion has a couple advantages. One, the ability to be standing more upright gives me a better view of the line. Two the stroke is a one handed operation. I employ a piston type method whereas my left hand simply acts as a hinge and my right does all the work. I make an effort to make a straight back and straight through stroke, personal preference. Nothing else moves in my stroke accept my right hand. I am a pretty good putter although most of good putting is in your head. If think you'll make it you probably will. If you think for a split second you wont then you don't have a chance.

I use a 50" Pole Kat putter. It's not fancy but it's easy to line up and that I believe is the key. If you can be confident in your alignment thats the best mental start you can have over any putt. Since your putter is only 45 inches I am not sure how you would use it. Is the lie angle such that it is most likely set up to be a belly putter? At that length it probably is. I have tried belly putters but I find my hands still fight each other.

Duh! In my post I meant to say the left (top) hand is stationary just left of the sternum

    • I had a few tweeks in the bag. I took out my Mizuno pro FliHi 3 iron replaced it with a Titleist GT2 7 Wood. what a change that is, so easy to hit, it goes so high without it ballooning on me. I couldn't get rid of my callaway woods ( Rogue ST Max LS ) but changed the shafts to Diamana BB 63 stiff for the driver and 73 stiff for the 3 wood. Than i got myself a new putter Odyssey S2S jailbird yes i joined the centershaft family
    • First off all i think you should use the same ball all the time. We all strive for consistency on the course, the only factor you can be sure it will be always the same is your ball if you always use the same. So i think we should always use the same. I recently switched from Titleist Pro V1x to Srixon Z-Star Diamond because it i get a bit softer feel around the greens and same results on driver and irons
