So im getting some new irons soon, but also wanted to get a wedge for xmas. I was gonna go and get a 60 degree vokey, but then i thought i should wait till i get my irons to then determine what degree wedge to buy.

Is it right to choose your wedges around your iron set up in regards to distance gaps?

Pretty much, but the 60 degree one won't be determined by distance gaps, because it isn't a specific distance club. Not that other wedges really are either, but a lob wedge is an individual choice based on whether you want/need one. It doesn't really "match up" with your irons.

The loft of your PW might determine whether you get, say, a 52 or a 54.

Thanks you have given me a different approach to the whole wedge thing. To be honest i rarely use the 60 for full shots, mainly for half shots 45 meters or closer, and i love chipping with it. I could get a 60 and then as you say, get clubs to fit the gaps between the 60 and PW.

I'd get the irons and then choose the wedge.... I've seen PWs go from 43 to 47 (I'm sure some brands are even outside that window)

Assuming you are keeping your other wedges then if the PW you buy is a 43 then I'd fill the gap between that and your 52, if its a 47 then no need and grab the 60.
