Played 18 yesterday with the wife for a day date. She played the first 9 (well if you consider hitting 10 shots then picking up playing) then walked with me on the back. Had a nice time with her and she had a good time too. Now the golf: Course was 6850, played the back tees, rating was 72.3 not sure about slope, probably pretty low since there wasn't a ton of trouble. Shot an 82 (10 over), 8 greens, 1 FW, 29 putts. Driver was much better than the fairway stat indicated. I was out of position 8 times. Not one 3 putt (huge for me), short game was ok, driver was long and sometimes not straight. I don't know what has changed but I am at least 20-30 yards longer than ever. Good ones are around 280 after roll (according to score card) and bad ones are around 250. Really stepped it up on the longer par fours and hit bombs when needed. Longest 4 was 460 down hill, had 175 in, second longest was 430, had 150 in. Just really happy. I didn't think about contact. It is almost a given now. I really have no idea what happened, my swing seemed to get more fundimetally sound, playing a push draw now as opossed to a pull draw, working out super hard but not golf specific by any means. Also playing a 9.5 degree driver and 3 wood now since I hit it higher.

Really excited. FInally starting to get better after over a year of getting worse.

Brian

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
