OK Lob Wedge, I don't get this ...? How come I can go to the range with my 60* Cleveland lob wedge and hit full-swing 50-65 yard lobs and it's like lawn darts. And I love it. It's a part of practice I relish.

More or less the same with the 40 foot half swings. Some of the shots are to within single digit feet, and a decent shot is an 80 to 90 percent proposition.

But when I get on the course it's a 50 percent proposition -- that I'm not going to blade it over the green? Sometimes I get the great shot, but others, I blade it.

Just saying.

Last time out, though, on a 20 yarder over a bunker, I caught myself flipping in the follow through. Disgusting.

I gotta practice the shorter ones a lot more, I guess. But still, so much better on the range with the LW vs. the course.

For the rest of the clubs the difference is minimal, the range, the course, it's even Steven.

But the LW is a different ballgame.

Hitting lob wedges off a mat is easier than the real thing..

To hit the lob wedge well, you need to hit down on the ball and make sure to contact the ball first before the turf. The memory of fat shots will cause you to lift up your hand and resulted in a blade. Practice makes perfect. If you ask me, i rather hit a pitching wedge 1/2 swing than an 60 degree full swing. To me, lob wedge and sand wedge are not meant for full swing.

I have similar issues with short irons -- at the range, i could play on tour. On the course....well...

For me, i'm guessing it's rhythm & pattern. On the course, you've just hit driver or iron, and now have a lob wedge at a good distance. Well, you only get one swat at it--at the range, most will take the same shot & repeat a bunch of times. Often one doesn't go through the whole preshot routine either at the range. And when i think about it, during practice i'm probably only 50-50% (or less) for a good shot on my FIRST attempt with a club...

So (and although i don't practice what i preach enough), many say to practice how you play, i.e. visualize a certain hole and play those clubs, i.e. for a Par 5 perhaps driver, hybrid, wedge, with only one swing with each club. If you don't like the results, repeat the "hole" and not just the same club over and over.
