Since my last round, I increased my practice time with my driver, woods and hybrids. In my last round I was hitting my irons okay, but woods were very inconsistent. The practice improved my wood striking and distance but my iron swing was a little flakey on me. I'm not sure if it's because I'd been practicing alot with my woods or just from hitting too many balls overall.

I got to play a round yesterday at same course I had been to for Round 2. I was looking forward to it because I had a good idea how the course was laid out so there wouldn't be any surprises.

Once again we didn't have time to warm up, so first swing with contact was my tee shot, which was a slice, no surprise. I took a double par on the first hole, but once I was warmed up, things got much better. I never took my driver out, I'm not even sure why I carried it. Instead I used my Diablo Edge 3W which I like more and more every time I use it. I'm not sure if it's the shaft length, weighting or club face, but this club is very forgiving and hits the ball long. I had a few drives that went 250 yards with rollout and outhit my buddy who was using his driver. He was so impressed, he put his driver away and started using my 3W on tee shots too. After the round he went and bought one for himself he liked it so much.

Overall I played well, my woods, hybrids, and irons were pretty consistent, but far from perfect. When I did miss, it was more skulling the ball than slices, which cost me some distance, but at least they went straight. I could have had my first birdie and par if it wasn't for my horrible putting. I am going to sell the Rossa Corza Ghost which I took with me instead of the S Cameron Newport 2 because I hadn't had much time to practice with the Newport. Big mistake, I couldn't have putted any worse than I did. I had one 2 putt hole, rest were 3 and 4 putts. The Ghost I'm sure is a great putter, but I can't get a feel for distance with it. I line it up great, but I'm always short or long.

Final stats, I shot a 118 - still horrible, but 12 strokes less than my last round, so it's an improvement for me. If I can get my putting worked out I think I could easily take another 18 strokes off. My goal before end of season (November) is to break 100, but it won't happen if I don't fix my putting.

I played with Taylor Made Burner TP's (2 for $40 at Sports Authority) and was pretty impressed with the control and distance I had with them. They also seemed to stop pretty well on my lob wedge shots on the green, though the greens were not very hard yesterday. I'm not qualified to comment on how they felt putting so you're on your own there.

Intend to spend alot of time putting this week, and working with my irons to get my swing groove back so I get better dispersion again.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I use the Taylormade TP Black LDP (similar to your Burner) and love it. I will not use a different ball except maybe a pro v1.
A four foot putt to win never gets any less terrifying.

If I ever get happy with myself for finishing 12th or 15th, someone needs to put my clubs away and I'll take up tiddlywinks.

    • Day 316 - More swings, full backswing and full finish.
    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
