I'm flying out this weekend to the BCS National Championship game in Glendale, AZ. We'll be staying in Tempe. We're looking to play a round while out there.

Can you recommend a course with a reasonable price?

We'll also need to rent clubs. If you know of a local pro shop that rents that would be great. I know courses usually have sets but my experience is that they're generally pretty poor.

Thanks!

Kevin

I'll be in the Mesa area the last weekend of this month joining my Dad and some other friends who are already there.  They are playing all over the valley, but I know the three courses we'll be playing when I get the are Lone Tree (Chandler), Trilogy (Gilbert) and Great Eagle (Surprise).

I think most all the courses in that area have rentals sets.  At least all the ones I've looked into have.  Check out this site, you can look by city name:

If you are in Tempe play ASU Karsten.  Rates aren't bad and a Pete Dye design.  They will have rental clubs.  16-18 are some tough finishing holes!

I live about a 5-iron away from Great Eagle and I gotta tell you that they didn’t overseed their greens this year. What does this mean? It means their greens SUCK. I haven’t been there in a month or so; but the last I heard, the plan was to paint the greens green. There is a course down the street (west on Bell Rd.) called Arizona Traditions that is in better shape. If you plan to play in Surprise you might as well play on one of the Sun City Grand courses – these courses are always in pristine condition.
