Looking for suggestions, drills for quieting down my hips/legs.   A few scienaros from past rounds have shown me how much better I strike the ball when I limit their role in my swing.  1.  Played a couple of rounds before a scramble several years ago.  During the first round I injured my right glute.  I couldn't get my legs and hips active as before.  I absoululty crushed it with accuracy.  2. Often hitting from lies that restrict solid footing, the same thing will happen.  Example would be, in the fairway bunker with my feet, bunker has no real lip and the ball is in the fairway, level lie.  Crush it.

I suspect I'm getting my hips out front with a slide and I increase my spine angle from address to impact positions.

Any thoughts would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

you would probably have to post a video of your swing to see whats up...

but some of the things you said remind me of a problem i think i may finally be over and that is swaying.  i used to sway back and sway forward without turning my hips correctly.  this hurt my back and made me incredibly inconsistent.  i would hit some good shots, but would pull out the big slice or pull hook at the worst times.

i worked at fixing this all of last season and i would have a really good first 2 holes but then would fall back into the swaying.  but now finally i think i found the solution to the swaying problem, which is something people talk about on here alot.  and that is the head still, staying centered thing.  you cant sway if your head doesnt move back.

also keep in mind that how you move your hips in your backswing will effect how they move in your forward swing.

Feet Together Drill.  Hit balls with your heels about 1 inch apart.  See if that helps.  If it does, you might try playing with a very narrow stance.

Feet together works great, I used to tie my shoelaces together, works like a charm, great for balance and tempo, I used to be able to hit everything from PW to driver like that.  You will also be very surprised how far you can hit the driver with your shoelaces tied together!  I could knock it out there 230 with a nice easy well balanced swing.

Towards the end of the summer and through the fall, I used the feet together drill for warming up before playing.  I would start slow with quarter and half swings building to a full swing.  I was able to take that to the course and hit a lot of fairways.  One affect of building up to a full swing with normal stance was a nice tempo and balance.

I haven't done it with the irons, but I will start.

Thanks for the help.

    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
