I started golfing late last fall, i feel that i have plenty of power, my irons have straightened out and 80% of the time go at least in the direction i want them to. Haven't played enough to control distances very well. But when i break out the driver it rarely goes staight at all, I've been out to a heated driving range twice this winter after i got a TM Burner driver, it for some reason seems to go staighter than my last driver, but still over half the shots are sliced.

What i guess i really wanna know is your take on swing training clubs, like the medicus hinged hitable driver, it sells for 180 at dicks, but thats around 1800 balls i could hit at the driving range (large bucket is 9.50 with around 100 balls). would i be better off just spending my time at the driving range or should i invest some sort of trainging club? And what did you do when you started out?

If your other clubs go OK, your driver problems might be from overswinging on your takeaway, and coming over the top. Or, you might be putting the ball too far forward in your stance.

What I should have done when I started out was take a couple of lessons. A decent PGA-certified pro could tell you what's wrong in about 15 minutes. If you play around with a hinged driver, it could take you several weeks of hit-and-miss, and reinforcing bad habits.

Find a pro who will give you a video lesson summary - the before and after of the lesson adjustments. With the video clip (usually e-mailed to your computer), you have:

* A baseline analysis of your swing.

* Something you can review for practice points before you go to the range. Some people put it on their iPod and play it at the range - good for immediate stop-action.

Good luck, and let us know what happens.
