I went to the golf simulator to hit some balls today and i recorded a little video. First session since last summer.

Feed back would be appreciated.

my hcp is 10.4

I would like what everyone wants, more distance, but i am 175 and 66 kilo so not a big guy :)


You have some pretty awesome flexibility. The main thing I see is that you might consider setting up with a 5-10cm wider stance. Try to keep your left knee towards the target more. Try to feel like you're crushing a beer can under your left foot on the down swing.

I am going to work on;

wider stance

more weight on left foot

The knee comment I don't really now how to work on.

I have also watched the S&T; video and  will also work on the flying wedge way of hitting the ball instead of flipping the wrist.


All in all, you've got a pretty nice looking swing. The only critique I can offer is it looked like you took the club head to the inside a teeeeeeeny tiny bit early, but other than that it looks pretty good. I agree with the getting the weight forward idea, you could use a bit more hip slide, but all in all very nice.

You do, however, bear a strong resemblance to Neil Patrick Harris. Suit Up!

Your desire to change has to be greater than your desire to stay the same.

I will post a video after the next training sesison, but might take a while due to another wave of crappy weather :(


i would say drop your hands a little bit at address.

also rotate your hips a little more through impact. your hips should be almost facing the target at impact and yours looked a little closed. with your shallow swing plane its very important to get through the ball

keep your wrist hinged on the downswing for as long as possible. seems like your flipping at the ball a little.

the big thing i saw in your swing was your takeaway. on your takeaway it looked like your body started moving back with your arms. you have to start you backswing with you arms until they are parallel to the ground then start you lower body. think of it as a two piece takeaway rather than one fluid motion. this is probably why your takeaway is a little inside like Tifosinumerouno said.

What you are saying is that the body should be kept still while the hands and hips are moving at takeaway right?

yes, i like the players i teach to keep everything pretty centered over the ball. this makes it easier to get back to impact position correctly.

the takeaway should be two pieces. first your hands move back and you cock your wrists till your arms are parallel to the ground then you start your body to complete the full turn. then on the downswing you start your lower body first which puts the club into the perfect position to release the clubhead for solid contact.

For the first time this season the weather was okay, so i went out to practice and play:

This is what i had i mind:

- Widen my stance alittle

- Keeping wait forward (sadly i have some fluffy pants on and the wind is blowing against me so it is hard to see my leg position)

- Not moving away from the ball at impact (after i came home i found out that i failed at this one)

My ball flight is dead straight but i would actually rather hit a draw

Goals for next time:

- Less wrist flipping

- Slowing down the back swing a little

New video where i practise:

- Forward leening shaft at impact

- Not moving away from target during 'take off'


It would be nice to see a face on video, to take a look at impact. You said above at one point that you wanted to work on the flying wedge, to maintain more lag, and have less flip. However lag is a result of a good golf swing. You cannot make an attempt to create lag in your swing. Lag is a law of physics if you swing the club correctly.

In other words, you need to figure out what you are doing that is causing you to lose that lag. In the first video, the club coming back too far inside would most likely make you flip at it through impact. Like mentioned above, you need to make sure your head stays still, and the same height on the way back. On the downswing the head can dip a bit, however there should be no movement latterly.

Also in the swing right above, it looks like your stance is a bit open. Look at your feet, compared to the club shaft on the ground. Unless of course you were doing this on purpose.


One thing not mentioned yet is that although your left arm and your shoulders appear to be on the same plane (generally a good thing), that plane looks quite flat.  Try to turn the shoulders a little more steeply, so that you feel like your left shoulder rotates under your chin and your right shoulder rotates above the back of your neck.  Getting this plane right will remove a lot of timing from the downswing, helping both power and consistency; instead of correcting with your arms to direct the club down below the plane to where the ball is, you'll be able to rotate through in a simpler, more powerful motion, with more passive arms.  This feeling of being able to forcefully turn the shoulders and have the arms just come along for the ride should help you fix the flip, too.  A powerful swing is one where the feet push against the ground, in turn moving the hips, which in turn move the shoulders, which in turn move the arms, which in turn swing the club through.  Each of these things needs to happen as a reaction to the previous one (i.e. in that chronological order) during the downswing to achieve power.

I have done much playing but not much work on technique. I think i made progress in not flipping at impact and i feel like i am hitting the ball very good.

This is what it looks like now. It still looks a bit funny with my hips i think and i my opinion i look very tilted to the target side with my upper body but as long as i produce good results i wont change be too much :)

    • Can't tell 100% from your videos but if your right hand is too far underneath the grip the tendency for most folks is to roll it close through impact little too early. Try putting your right (trail) hand more on the side of the grip instead of underneath at address for a simple enough adjustment. This might help. In general match-ups matter greatly and you might have to make corresponding changes. I wouldn't even begin to suggest whatever those might be. Best to get a good pro to help. Self-diagnosis/experimentation can work for some but for most it's a rabbit hole.  
    • Been away for a few weeks. A bit of tumultuous times at work. We had about 4% our exempt workforce laid off. My project from hell won’t let up. Just been burnt out the past couple of weeks and the cold crappy weather. Back at it now. Backswing drill - working on swing path feels. Right wrist bent, more feeling the palm facing away from me. Feeling the hands stay in front of me more.  Downswing- Feel like I make a big long arc with the butt end of the club to my right pocket. More out away from my shoulder. Combining this with recentering for timing. When I make a 60% swing, the clubhead feels like it’s arching from the inside and lower way more. 
    • Its tough, "greatest" is subjective, measured in many different ways, while goals and assists are simple numbers.  And even simple numbers aren't always directly comparable across eras, as you mention.  A truly amazing coincidence, if Ovi scores 2 goals in the next 2 games, he'll have exactly the same number as Gretzky (894), in exactly the same number of games (1487).
