I am going to oil it then store it in an oily rag when I am not playing

I clean all of my clubs after every game

nothing wrong with an oily rag, but if you want a bit of convenience, you might try one of those silicone impregnated cloths used for wiping down firearms and fishing equipment.

Sounds like a good idea

I want to cut the putter down half an inch

Will it make a big difference to the swingweight?

It feels very heavy at the moment
