I have been using "in fingers" golf grip ( http://golf.about.com/od/golftips/ss...ip_lead_3.htm) , in Five Lessons by Hogan says to grip it in the palm and across index finger.

Which method do you use? Any downside to one of these grips vs the other? I will try the grip that Hogan suggested the next time out and report back.

I'm weird..I initially set it in the fingers but by the end of the day seems like I'm more "palmsy". I'm more concerned of how I'm coming into the ball most of the time though.

they should be in your fingers not your palms. Placing the club in the palm makes you lose clubhead speed. Also harder to square the club on impact..

Hogan had big hands and a swing designed to avoid hooks at all costs. If you have big hands it is okay to put it more in youre fingers, this maximixes hand speed and release. If you have a problem hooking and already have a neutral or weak grip then putting it a little more in the palm is ok. Those of us with small hands have no choice.

Hogan said no such thing. He said grip it in the fingers such that the grip is directly below the heel of the palm. He shows how he balances the club under the heel of the palm and the index finger. It is important that the club stay under the heel of the palm through the finish of the swing. If the club moves out onto the palm during the swing, your swing goes haywire because the brain's link to the club position is lost and the hands/arms take over in a bad way. This proper grip has nothing to do with hand size, simply get a gripsize which fits your hand size.

Definitely in the fingers. The palms will make it difficult to release the club in the follow through as well as having the club square at impact. It takes time and practice to get a good swing when changing to the proper grip but will make a huge difference.

    • Day 159 1-19 Flow drill while attempting to add arch in wrist on downswing. Not where it needs to be but felt good working on swing flow.
    • Day 1 (19 Jan 26) - after a week lay-off due to travels, felt great to get in some drills in the backyard today.  Started with lead arm only short pitches focused on squared face and light divot post ball.  Haven’t done this in a while and it showed, with some skulls and slices.  Settled into easy flighted balls - wrapped up with standard two handed swings.  Good restart to the daily drills.
    • That depends what you do within those two.  Are they your only options?   Check out Fit for Golf if you get a moment.  It's linked on the sidebar;  I did it for two years, stopped for a really bad reason, and I plan to get back to it soon.   Mike Carroll also has a great free podcast about a lot of topics in golf fitness.
    • Day 19, 1/19.  Finished work in time to spend 25 minutes hitting balls (hit 15) indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Usual focus.
    • Day 30 - 2026-01-19 Got 10 minutes in on the mat / net working on exagerrating movements I'm working on. And grip. Also worked with my friendly AI to summarize key negative tendencies I have so that I can build a personal checklist to follow. Will do more mirror work tonight.
