Is this run through Golf Canada?

I joined the AGA (Alberta Golf Association) Public Players Club last season ($40) because I wasn't a member of a golf club. It's a way to have a recognized handicap, plus you can connect with other members (theoretically) and track all kinds of stats. This season I'm playing out of a club that opted out of RCGA so they don't offer RCGA handicap cards - rounds there are considered valid, but I still need to enter my scores with Golf Canada if I want to maintain my official index for other course's tournaments. Does that make sense?

Yes it includes a membership to Golf Canada.  An official handicap would be interesting to track along with lots of other stats.  It's only $30 but it seemed that you don't really get any value added to that aside from the handicap unless you like to travel (they offer travel discounts sort of like CAA I think).  You do get a cool Golf Canada tag for your bag.  Maybe it's worth it for the bling factor?

I've never thought about entering tournaments, maybe that's something I should look into this year.

I joined the AGA PPP this year, I kept my handicap on a free website but want an official one for tournaments I may want to enter.

I also get a gift in the mail...dunno what it is...

Anyway, I'll be entering my first round this Sunday!

How do the travel discounts work?

Hopefully it's the same gift I got last year. This year I just got the bag tag (and we get a subscription to Alberta Gofer Magazine and Golf Canada Magazine - or maybe it's Score Golf Magazine - whatever), but last year there were two nice AGA ball markers and one giant ball marker/medallion thingy. I was afraid to use them because I'm forgetful. Hopefully it's just renewals that don't get the markers, because they really were/are nice.

I'm not sure exactly how it works, someone I knew who was a member last year described it that way.  With CAA I believe you just present your card and there is sometimes a discount for hotels and whatnot.

I didn't notice the magazine subscriptions included.  Looks like Ontario Golf and the Golf Canada magazine are included as well.  For $30 I think I'll give it a go.  Doesn't mention any free swag though, oh well! Here 's the page if anyone is interested in looking at it.
