Getting new irons this week. Hit both of these really well. If you were me what would you get and why. Will both still be good if and when I lower my handicap. I'm about a 11 now. Will the potential sale of titleist affect the trade in value later on down the road? Thanks!

The trade in value on any club is never going to be a great return down the road mate, especially on game improvement irons.

I currently use the 09 Burners and have found them outstanding, they are very forgiving. They have been a big help in getting me to where I am today.

I have not hit the AP1's but I have hit the AP2's and love them, I am keeping an eye out for a second hand set as a mate uses them and I cant help but keep taking them off him when we play.

But for what you are asking all I can say is the Burner 09's are outstanding.

The schoolteacher was taking her first golfing lesson. "Is the word spelt p-u-t or p-u-t-t?" she asked the instructor. "P-u-t-t is correct," he replied. "Put means to place a thing where you want it. Putt means merely a vain attempt to do the same thing."

I would go with the AP1s out of those two.  Any particular reason you're looking at only those two at your ability level?

Not really. Tried those an the jpx800 and the razr and narrowed it down. Why do you ask am I missing something I should look at?

Well, a few things.  First, you seemed to have narrowed it down significantly, and then picked two sets that are similar, but neglected a few that are also similar (the JPX and the Razr were on my mind).  That you tried the other ones and didn't like them is reason enough to not get them.

Next, why get a full set?  If you're a very low ball hitter -- and I have a friend with a handicap a little under yours that is, and plays the Burners for that reason - I'm not going to suggest going to Players' irons for anything.

But, in my opinion, there's rarely a reason to get a full set of one type of irons these days (unless that set itself is a combo, like the Adams A7 or Nike Pro Combo).  But maybe you like the forgiveness in the long irons, but want something a little sharper in the scoring irons.  The AP2s are almost certainly within your ability to hit (again, assuming you aren't a habitual low ball hitter);  maybe you want AP1s to take over from where your hybrids or woods leave off, and go to maybe your 6 or 7 iron.  Then you could get AP2s for 7 or 8 through gap wedge.   Similarly, the Burners probably mix with something like the TP CBs.    And if you're buying new, just about any golf shop will sell you the halves at pro-rated (especially since they're typically ordering custom for whatever shaft and grip you've selected).

I bought my AP1's separately. Why pay for a 3,4,5 iron when I'm better off with hybrids?   I do recommend getting the gap wedge that comes with the set. It's a seamless fit with the other irons and for a cavity back wedge plays pretty good.

The same probably applies to the Calloways. As far as resale goes, either way you loose.

    • I generally like par-3 courses and find it a darn shame that the last of them closed in my area during the pandemic. Part of it may have to do with the fact that I never have been very good with the longer clubs, so the short holes are a bit more my speed.  Being able to get in 18 holes in two hours was pretty convenient and, ironically, the lack of crowds made them peaceful places to be. Naturally, that's the same reason they no longer exist around here.  The second option sounds like a whole lot of no fun.
