I am a 2 handicap that has never been fitted for any clubs in my life.  I have no clue what my swing speed ad wanted to know if a custom driver could help me achieve better results.  I hit my irons a long way but my driver distance doesn't seem to be consistent with my iron distances.  My iron distance averages are as follows:

PW    - 140

9 iron - 155

8 iron - 165

7 iron - 180

6 iron - 195

5 iron - 205-210

I currently play the Adams CB2s and I have a stock Adams 9.5 degree Speedline Fast 10 driver with a stiff shaft.  I average about 270-280 off the tee.   I seem to baloon the ball a little bit.  I have always used a stock driver shaft. Should I see distance gains with a custom driver shaft and does anyone have any recommendations????  Please help.  Thanks.

Yes, it seems like you could probably get some more distance off the tee. Take a look at the average Trackman numbers for the PGA tour below and you can see your irons are actually a little longer, but your drives are a fair bit shorter. My guess is that with your swing speed you could play a slightly lower lofted driver head and an x-stiff shaft. You'd likely get a lower launch angle and spin rate and a more penetrating ball flight. But you won't know unless you go and get properly fitted by a knowledgeable pro.

You can also plug your numbers into this calculator, which many of us here have found to be quite accurate. It also suggests you should be getting the ball out over 300 yards, you lucky sod.

Those are impressive numbers!  Shafts are often underrated IMO.  With your level of skill, you have a lot to gain with an upgraded shaft.  In addition, sometimes stock factory shafts are wrong.  It may say stiff, but may not be accurate.  Also, it may not be spined (where the seam of the shaft is aligned properly), or have the correct flex point, weight, or even length!

A lot goes into custom club shaft fitting.  With that being said, the price of the shaft doesn't always reflect the quality.  Some shafts are upwards of $300.00.  The key word is custom.  What will work for you may not work for me.

I'm anxious to see what numbers you get if you reshaft it!

    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.
    • Day 151 1-11 flow work today. I've been doing all pause work, so Inwanted to get some rhythm going. Recorded.

    • So the question was posed today by some of my friends.  Is a pitch mark the same as a divot?  I thought NO, but they argued if your ball lands in another player's divot (made by club during a swing) this was the same as a pitch mark, i.e. the ball mark made when the ball lands
    • Original definition use to or still is how far offline you hit it. It might be better to think of it as consistency in retaining favorable launch conditions to optimize distance.   That heat map showed a gigantic 0-3% loss in ball speed. That is absurd. The true 100% sweet spot is tiny for all clubs. Good luck telling the difference if the sweet spot is under 3% in a sizable area. Especially considering variation in launch angle, spin, and outdoor weather.
