Alright, so I think I have to do a complete overhaul in my bag after this last weekend and I'm not really looking forward to the amount of $ I'll have to drop.

My stupid ass soaked my grips overnight, (thinking it might clean them more for some reason), and now I've had my 3rd iron snap in half after hitting the ball a tad chunky which leads me to think its just a matter of time before they all do.  Guessing a little water got down in the shafts, insides got a little rusty and now they're all doomed.

Think I needed better shafts in my irons anyways since they came with the original stock shafts, but I'm wondering whether I should just replace all the shafts in my irons and how much it might cost me to do that, or just go buy a new set?  I love my 33's, does anyone know what is the most similar iron to them, is it the Nike's?

The other new shafts I think I need are in my Driver and 4+.  Driver is just a 65g Stiff Aura gold, but after hitting my buddy's driver over the weekend, pretty sure I need an X.  Any good cheap recommendations for that?  Lastly, my Callaway Steelhead III 4+ wood has the stock FIRM shaft in it, and I NEVER hit it anymore cause its so unreliable.  Feels too whippy and will always hook left if I don't put a good swing on it.  My hybrid that has an X shaft in it goes just as far and much straighter and I just hit that everytime on par 5's for my second shot and might be losing out on 15 yards or so.

I should know more about clubs but don't, anyone, please help with suggestions.  Thinking about going to a local guy here in SF to get custom fit, hoping its not going to put a huge hole in my wallet.

Starting with a club fitter in your area would be the best bet.

Depending upon your swing, he will recommend shaft weight and stiffness that will suit your game.  Can't go wrong with True Temper Dynamic Gold, or Project X and KBS shafts.

I'm not surprised the Callaway 'firm' flex shaft is less than reliable, those play very soft.

If you're playing to a 2.7, you shouldn't sacrifice the right shafts for saving a few bucks.  As it sits, you'll be looking at several hundred dollars anyways.

Don't be too hard on yourself. How long ago did you soak your grips? Unless you soaked them in salt water, I don't think they would rust enough that fast to cause them to break.

At any rate, steel shafts for your irons will run from around $12-$50 per stick plus installation depending on which shaft you select, so about $85-350 for shafts and 50-60 for grips and maybe $5-10 per stick installation for your 4-PW.

You can spend anywhere from $20-200 per shaft for graphite/composite for your driver/3W plus grip and installation.

If you are going this route, might as well select a clubmaker that can do an adequate fitting-if you are getting all this work done they might not charge for the fitting but just for the above plus any bending required.

It was probably a good 9-10 months ago I soaked them, first club snapped during a tourney 8 months ago, then another a couple months after, and the most recent this past weekend.  First two snapped right at the middle, this weekends one snapped just below the grip.

Do you guys think I should just re-shaft all the irons if I don't really feel comfortable switching heads yet?  I'd want to go for some decent shafts but nothing super expensive, I've seen lots of guys with the Project X, but if I could get them all re-shafted and re-gripped for around $350 I'd be in.  Love the 33's too much and I haven't hit too many other irons I'd want to drop $800 or so on.

I love the head of my driver, (those don't go dead do they?) and could go for a reshaft for no more than $150 probably.  And then for a 3 wood, I guess I could just buy a year old model thats dropped in price a bit, I just need something that can go longer than my 2-hybrid but straight still.

    • True, true. I should do that. He really did go off during that run, I remember now. Appreciate the context.
    • I am pretty sure it is this. Word probably got around. The reports coming out now is that he bombed some interviews, and when pressed about it during the interview just basically had a horrible response. His attitude is crap. There are stories about him throwing his players under the bus at Colorado. I get it, he's not playing behind the best O-Line or have the best weapons (outside of Travis Hunter). That is bad leadership, bad attitude.  Also, it could be his dad as well. Who would want Prime Time chattering.  Go watch the playoff run. Four top 10 teams. He was elite. The Penn State game happened with our starting left guard shifting to left tackle and going up against the 3rd pick in the NFL draft. He had two big mistakes early. The pick, which looked to be a defensive play call to trap that RPO quick out, and then the fumble off his knee. He won the game besides that.

    • Yea I admit too I had more of a 2nd round evaluation on him, where I wrote in my notes "Maybe Geno Smith" after watching a couple games. Too many screens, too many sacks, awkward throwing motion at times, low velocity at times. Too low. At other times though I thought he made some nice throws, hence why I thought he should've probably gone around round two. So to me the free fall is surprising to an extent, but of course, it all makes sense now that he's still sitting there. He probably bombed his interviews too, and I know almost nothing of his personality. I love sports betting, hence why I love following this stuff, but there's only so much I can know from the outside looking in. But yea, my 2nd round guess was smart to an extent, but also bad now that he's still on the board and it's pick 4.17 at the moment. I see. Thanks for the take, I know you watch every game of theirs.  I just watched some of the Penn State game and can see both the upside and why he's still available. But I can get on board as well that Howard has more upside than Sanders too. Tougher competition, showed some growth from K-State to Ohio State.  I guess the question marks with Howard are processing and accuracy. Yea especially for us as fans. We don't get to interview these guys or talk to their college coaches to get a better idea of what they'll be like to work with everyday. We don't know who will end up being more durable and whose body will just naturally break down over the next few years. Some guys are great talents who go to terrible situations too, who are poor system fits in failed regimes. Other guys hit the jackpot with the perfect role on a great team in a weak division. There are so many variables.

If they get on next year, then they will get one the year after. If they get to 6, it might be a record never broken. They already hold the record.
