The Fedex Cup will award a total of $35 million in bonus money including $10 MILLION big ones to the Fedex Cup champion, the LARGEST single bonus payout in sports.
Boy, Nicklaus and Palmer got screwed. They would've had to play for 50 years to make that kinda jack!

I didn't vote because I am still not sure if I care for it. Time will tell if it helps getting big names out more often. But the problem with a playoff system for golf is it really may not determine who the best golfer is.

Right now the money seems like it is too much. I would much rather see dollars being spent on making tournament coverage better and increasing purses in smaller events or even the Nationwide Tour. There could be some good golfers out there that we may never see because things can be tough for up-and-comers.

So I will watch with interest and reserve judgement. As of now I think can be a good thing on paper and we will see how it works out in the real world.

I don't think it will work for golf, but we'll see. At first glance it is hard to get jazzed about a complex system of points collected over an entire season that results in some millionaire golfer making a few million more dollars at the end of the season.

I doubt one “ratings-driving” player will modify his schedule to accommodate it. It is designed to add some drama to the later part of the season, but if the leaders are top players who are already crazy rich and don't need the exemption, who cares? It might be of interest if some old-timer or a few rookies are involved because the result could be life changing for them, but what are the chances of that?

To win it a player will have to play six events in seven weeks at the end. The trophy has no legacy value and the points leader will probably be someone like Woods. He makes a $100 million a year and only cares about long standing records and tournaments that someone named Jones, Hogan, Palmer or Nicklaus won - majors!

This thing has been hyped to death and Couples recently said he couldn't name the FedEx Cup events if you offered him a million dollars.

I'd vote in this poll if there was a "Too Early to Tell" or similar button. Having read last week's GolfWorld article, it took from a 'this probably won't work' position, to 'maybe it will'... but am going to wait and see... if the players start talking about their position in the standings, how it's affecting their games (either positive, negative, or neutral), then will probably start developing a more definite opinion.

It will also be interesting to see how much TGC plays it up... if they treat it like Fox does for the Nascar Cup points race (sorry if I got it wrong...I might be one of the few residents of NC who isn't wrapped up in Nascar ) then that may impact it as well.

Here stands another resident of N.C. who doesn't give a flip about NASCAR. And I don't use STP!

FEDEX Cup? I'll have to take a wait & see approach before forming any solid opinion on it.
