Anyone from Toronto? I'll be there in June and am looking for a mid priced course and a grass range if possible within a 1/2 hour drive. These are what I have so far:

Markham Green Golf Club - 9 holes if short on time
Remington Parkview Golf & CC - 18 holes and grass range
Bushwood - 18 and grass range
Angus Glen - public grass range?
Deer Creek - public grass tange?

Any other taxes other than the HST?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not from the immediate Toronto area so I can't help too much with courses.  I can say that the HST is the only tax however.  You could have a look at http://www.golfnow.com/toronto to get a few more courses, but you'd have to use google maps to see if they're within your driving radius.

I can say there are some really nice courses in the Burlington/Hamilton section (which would be at least 60 minutes depending on time of day).  Indian Wells, Century Pines, Lowville and Hidden Lake and a few examples from that section.

Thanks, glad it is just the HST. Hamilton is a bit of a drive, esp. gas is more expensive in Canada. There are some private courses in the area I wonder how liberal their policies are. Are grass ranges open everyday or just weekends? I'll call when I get there, just looking for an advance answer.

I hear you on the gas prices.  I probably won't be able to play some of my very favourite courses this year because of that.  It would add probably $40-50 to the cost my round because I drive a truck.

If the ranges are on a course I've never seen one that isn't open all week.  Most of them have a maintenance downtown at some point during the week though so it would probably be a good idea to ask about that.

Thanks bradsul, hope the weather up there isn't like it is here in NYC. Rainy and cloudy.

    • I'm confused - the team of two is playing a scramble but the single player is playing best of two balls or is he playing a one man scramble with two shots? If the single is best of two balls, then I'd bet on the pair playing a scramble everytime. If it's a two man scramble versus a single person scramble, I'd take the single, at least until fatigue was a factor. Give a regular play two shots and I think he is going to play better than the other two guys. That said, probably works better for the solo for 9 holes than 18. If the solo was smart and self aware of his game, and many of us are not as aware as we should be, he would conserve his energy and not play a second swing after a good shot.
