I had to go get a couple of recently acquired wedges adjusted by my clubmaker/clubfitter yesterday, and on the drive back, was wondering who other folks in this forum mostly use... do they get it done at the store they bought their clubs, a professional/independent clubfitter, use the pro at their club, etc. Couldn't find a poll/thread on this, so thought I'd put it out there.

And here's the link to the guy I go to... he's good, and knows me so it's always a successful experience.

To start I am a clubfitter so I fit myself mainly by trial and error. I've very picky about how I test equipment but I still visit another clubfitter to either confirm my testing and/or to get an objective opinion. In the long run I still think it's important to have a professional fit you.

Well I am not a club fitter but I fit myself with static measurements and then took a look at my swing speed on Golf Galaxy's simulator (I know that can't really be trusted). Based on my carry distances and the simulator numbers as well as outside observation regarding my tempo I think I am close enough as to what I need. And then like Everado I use trial and error playing around with different shafts, lengths, and club heads until I find what I really like.

Someday when I find someone/someplace I can trust I will plop down the bucks to get fitted, but for now my little self appraisal seems to work for me.

I use an independent club fitter/maker. My basic specs have changed little over decades of play (2 degs. up, 1/2" long, etc.). What has changed is the number and types of shafts available. Armed with a good launch monitor, a qualified fitter really can narrow choices down for you to a manageable number. Can you find it on your own? I think so, but the help of a clubfitter makes it a lot quicker.

After their recommendations, though, it's still up to you. I played with two drivers last season that both fell within his suggested specs for me... but one simply outperformed the other. So go figure.

    • LIV golf was pretty close to me in 2023, at the same course that hosted the 2023 Senior PGA.  I didn't go to either one.  I do know a few people who went to the LIV event, and they said it was pretty well attended and pretty well run.  If I had free tickets, I might show up, but I'd probably have to drive 10 miles to park to get a shuttle to come back to within 5 miles of my house.
    • As long as "in town" means a drive of less than an hour, I'd probably go.  I've never actually been to a pro golf event, so it would be a novelty. Presumably, they'd be playing on a course that I'm not normally allowed to visit, so there would be an interest in just going to see the place. My tolerance for traffic is pretty minimal, so if massive headaches are predicted it would dampen my enthusiasm.
    • I would definitely buy tickets and go watch a round or two.
