I want the opinion of you guys, what the best job in golf? I no everyone would just say pro so im narrowing it down. There are so many jobs out there what would be the best?

I thought that being the club designer for one of the big manufactors would be fun job. Get to meet the pros and be the person behind them winning the event.

Also i though being Tigers personal ball designer woudl be good. To make a handfull of balls a year and check them all would be a good job. Not only getting to meet the man himself but to work with/for him.
Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose.

I played with 2 guys at Spyglass 2 years ago who worked at a golf-only management firm - that is, they were agents for professional golfers. That guy had played everywhere - Pebble, Cypress Point (they were playing there the next day), Augusta, Colonial, you name it in Scotland, etc. To me, that would be a cool job.

popey,

Two of my best friends are senior PGA Tour reps for Titleist and Mizuno. Working the Tours is one of the most difficult jobs to obtain in the golf industry. Obtaining one requires powerful connections, extensive knowledge, and a little luck to boot. Both of my friends developed some powerful connections playing the mini-tours and parlayed them into area rep jobs and step by step worked their way to the top through the various tours. If you are interested in working in the industry, I would contact the OEM's and tell them what your goals are, take any job with them, even if it's answering phones behind a desk, work hard at it, find out as much as you can, keep making contacts and keep pressing towards your dreams. If you're in need of some preliminary contacts in the 'States, feel free to drop me a message. Also, the job of a Tour rep is not all it's cracked up to be. On the surface, it appears to be hanging out with Tour players, and playing with equipment. However, both of my friends can count the number of rounds of golf they actually played in '06 on one hand. They are on the road 80% of the year, and by the time the weekend tournament action rolls around they are on the road headed to the next Tour stop. Like the old saying goes, if you like playing golf, don't work in the golf industry.

I don't want to work in the golf industry just because of the lack of playing time. A course was for sale a couple of years ago that was a steal and a friend and I thought about buying it. Then we started talking about what the work would actually entail and decided to pass. We wanted to play, not watch other people play.

How about the guy who goes out the week before each tour event and maps the course, creating a yardage book that they all buy. Wouldn't he have free time to play the course just before the pros show up, make decent money, and avoid all the crowds and other bad stuff associated with being "on tour".???

Teaching pro or tour van by far...Teaching pro is great because you swing and show people how to swing all day, don't forget about playing lessons. The tour van has to be sweet because tinkering with pros equipment and then having them win with something that YOU build has to be an awesome feeling.

That's the ideal job for me as well. Having said that, last fall I played into a foursome that had this job... they did it for a state-wide business group that does a yearly ranking of courses in NC. Unless they said this to be discouraging, they said that they weren't paid to play, they just got reimbursed for travel/meal expenses and most of the golf is comp'd. Even if it doesn't have a salary, it does seem like an ideal job... they play up to 2x a week.

I used to work at hedingham in raleigh about 10 years ago.. I drove the cart to pick up the driving range balls. And it use to scare the crap out of me when golfers would hit the cart.

I got to agree with Mulligan26, workin a tour van would be a sweet job. Get all the new gagets that the pro don't want, and the public can't have (or not suppose to have)
