I played a round of golf last week and was hitting the ball really well, went to the driving range a couple times and still hitting the ball well.  I played a round of golf yesterday and most of my iron shots were going right, not a slice but like I was aiming right...  So if I were aiming at lets say 12 o' clock I was hitting it in between 1-2 o'clock, just way off target...  What causes this because its really bugging me...  Could I be standing to far away from the ball?  I don't have any videos but anyone who as experienced this please chime in.

Probably don't want some goober high-capper answering, but I've had a longstanding war with the dead push.

Short answer:  Club face is open.  A straight push, as I understand it, is the result of an in-to-out swing path with the club face being square to that swing path (Which is open relative to the target line).

As to what causes -that-, any number of things.  For me, specifically, it tends to be due to spinning out my hips and getting my hands trapped behind -- Only options left at that point is a monstrous balloon push or a correction that brings me over the top.

A few million 9-to-3 type drills with feet closer together have helped immensely, as did the feet-together drill.  But, that's a reason -I- was hitting pushes, you could be doing something different.

Currently in my bag:  Under Revision

Had this same problem and went to a professional a few days ago and he said my hands were to far ahead of the ball at impact therefore creating an open clubface and i wasnt releasing the club.

A drill he got me to do was to put feet together then set up a ball in line with my left big toe, then move my right foot back.

When you hit the shot do not allow your body to turn on the follow through this will show you what releasing the club feels like.

Not sure if that helps but it definately helped me.

Tada!

Shot Shapes

Take a look at the above and you'll be able to see what's causing the shot to go right. From there it's a case of working backward and figuring out what you're doing in your swing that's causing it.

For me when I push a shot it's normally because I have my club face too open at address. That means at impact my club face matches my swing path and I don't get the normal "baby draw" I play.

Thanks everyone, I tried swinging with my feel closer together and a little closer to the ball and that makes swinging the club feel much better.  I am going to try and get to the range today and see what happens.

    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
    • Day 60 - 2024-11-29 Got about 3.5' of snow today, so I was going to go to Golf Evolution, but… I only left the house to throw some snow. Instead, i checked out my putting stroke on HackMotion in the basement. Turns out… it's pretty good, and I'm very in touch with what I'm doing.

After 4 worlds I run out of worlds that have the letters I've already found that can be combined with the remaining letters.. just repeated the 4th world to knew the answer. I know the world but it never came to my mind.
