I bought a Taylormade Burner a couple of years ago and the shaft is getting pretty whippy. Wondering if I would be able to get more durability out of an expensive shaft or should I just spend a little extra and go for a new driver?

you can pick up a UST shaft for about $70-80 and it will be an excellent aftermarket shaft.

I'm looking to go down the new shaft route as I can get the setup I want for a lot less money. If you buy a new driver it's only going to come with the stock shaft. Ok so you will probably get one that's not so whippy this time, but you'll get more bang for you bucks just buying a good shaft. A new shaft will make the driver feel and play like a new one anyway.

Just don't fall for the "higher price means it's better" train of thought  There are a lot of excellent shafts out there (or most any club component for that matter) that are very reasonable.  Take a look at http://www.arthursports.com/product.php also.  Robin Arthur designed most of Grafalloy's most popular shafts, and is in business for himself now.  Worth taking a look at, and if you have any questions about their product, you can usually speak to Robin himself.

I vote for shaft, world of difference even with mid-priced shafts versus most stock OEM.  Plus you can optimize torque, tip, stiffness, etc and get it spined/floed.  If you like the driver head, get a new shaft - its a very important piece of the equation.

I know a guy that has a UST competion 75 series shaft but can't find much info or product reviews on them. Are these a good shaft? I can't even tell the stiffness by looking at it.

Done a quick Google search and found this:

some good shafts here.  I bought the sonartec branded red ice shaft for a 3 wood, their sales rep said its the same as the purple ice shaft from graphite design.  Its maybe a few grams heavier than a stock driver shaft, but for 14 bucks its a decent option.

I have a very similar question!

Im hitting an 8.5 Callaway FT3 tour model. Absolutely love the driver head, but the shaft is much too whippy.

Ive been told it has a .350 tip diameter, but cannot find a shaft anywhere with the same diameter.

What should I be doing... new shaft or new Driver...?

Find the shaft you want in a .335" tip, then get a brass .335" to .350" shim:
