I am going to Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area in early March. I'm going 2 weeks before the tour will be landing there, and I want to play the best courses possible.

Of course I'd like to play Doral, and I know they have multiple courses. Could you guys please list your favorites at both DORAL and the surrounding area??!? Oh yeah, I'll be in Naples/Ft. Meyers too if there's any good ones there.

I can play both public and private courses being an Assistant, so please list accordingly. Thanks!

About the only thing I can offer is that I really enjoyed the Gold Course at Tiburon last time I was in Naples (December 2004).

I played a private course in Naples - Golf Club of the Everglades. A links style layout. There's a public course - Raptor Bay that's a little north of Naples that's not bad. On the east coast, if you get as far north as Del Ray Beach there's a nice Donald Ross layout - Del Ray Beach GC.

thanks for the help guys! I can't wait to take my trip!!

awesome info...I called up Seminole and they said I'd have to play w/a member, which usually isn't a problem, but I'm not going to make them go out of their way to get me on.

Other than that, it looks as if I'll be flying into Fort Lauderdale (be there for 2 days of golf) and I'd like to play Doral (how's the Great White track?) and one other. So my tentative schedule will be this

Friday - Doral (Great White Course)
Saturday - NOT SURE YET?!?!?!

Then I'll be heading to Naples and Fort Meyers for 2 days:

Sunday - Calusa Pines (Naples) - Hopefully!!! or Gold Course @ Tiburon
Tuesday - Colonial Country Club (Ft. Meyers)

besides the blue monster and the white course, doral also has a red course, a silver course and i think they might have a gold course. the silver course is the most recent addition and the most memorable for me. in the fort lauderdale area, there is a tpc course west of fort lauderdale, and in palm beach gardens there is pga national with something like seven courses. i don't know much about crandon park on key biscayne (a series of islands just south of downtown miami) except it is on the ocean and they host a champions event every year. the biltmore in coral gables, a miami suburb, is a great track but is in rough shape after years of indifferent upkeep and is due to be shut down soon and will be rehabbed for next winter, so i heard. check that place out after next season. north miami/north miami beach have a bunch of good courses as well as hialeah/miami lakes, just north of doral. lots to choose from, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a great track to play.

Why not? I would!

I'll also echo the guy above who said Raptor Bay was decent. I played that as well and it was a good course. I still think Tiburon Gold was better though.

Both myself and the Golf Pro would have to go out of their way to get that accomplished...and although I'd love 2 play it, I'll just stick to the other courses...I'll play Tiburon when in Naples for sure then...thanks!

    • Day 8: 12/17/2024 Okay I took my new PPJ swing thought to the range today. I wasn't sure I was quite ready to do so, but I'm glad I did.  When I got it right it was good... really good. When I got it wrong it was a major fail. I hit lots of really ugly ones. But I didn't let that deter me. I stayed committed and focused on the PPJ and I avoided any temptation to go back to what I was doing before just so that I could "look" better at the range. I'm pretty excited about what I saw when I got it right.  I hit the 6 iron mostly (nearly all block work today). I also hit about 6 balls each with the PW, 8I, 5W and Driver. Those had varying degrees of success. I did crack one drive that let me feel and see what the changes will look like once I get fully trained.  Anyway, I'm going to go back to the mirror work for a couple of more days before bringing it back to the range. I do feel like if I can get this right my swing will improve a lot. So I think its worth the effort. I liked the way it looked on GEARs when I get it right, and I like the results I got at the range when I got it right. Now the goal is to work towards getting it right more often.
    • So I think it's that they can't just bend the shaft or hosel to get it to a new lie angle. They adjust that and it changes the weighting, so they have to then adjust all the weights to get it balanced again. I get the impression that it's a bit of an iterative process and they do it all in the US, so they're paying US labor costs to build it and make it work how it's supposed to. Whether you believe in the tech or not, I think that's a true statement.
    • Ah, the old EE in the backswing move. Chest going back and staying down doesn't help.
    • Extremely outward path with a very closed club face. Maybe unless you have a stupidly weak grip, like right hand way over top, I don't think the grip is necessary highly correlated to this.
