Well this morning, I went over to the Chateau Elan 9-hole, Par 3 course. I was hitting straight all morning but my worst problem was hitting way too far off the tees. Most of my shots went way past the green. My dad says I was hitting the ball square and I need to hit down on the ball. I'm playing there again tomorrow morning.

...tips anybody?

if you were hitting it square on a par 3 and going too far, try taking less club off the tee.  alternatively, if by saying that you need to hit down on the ball more he means you were skulling it, then maybe you could hit the same club but start taking a divot after the ball.

Depending on the distance and club you used, it could be you need less club or as your father suggested you need to work on your ball striking.  I can hit my PW 110 yards with a nice high arc that lands softly with little roll out.  I can also hit my PW 140 yards on a low arc with a lot of roll out.  For me, the 140 yard shot is a mishit and the 110 yard is the desired shot.

My problem is hitting down on the ball and making divots. I get lots of distance hitting it square but it kills me on par 3s. I've got to work on hitting down on the ball so I can get the good loft and perfect distance.

I'm about to head over to the range here in a little bit and work on it.

When you hit down on it you get distance, just take club less.

I had a perfect 175 shot today, hit 7 iron, pured it flew the green into a trap on the backside.  I hit down on it, just caught it better then expected and it flew 180ish into a trap.

    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
    • Have you measured? 🙂
    • I'm bad about taking pictures, but here are a few Hole 1 on Duke, looking toward the green. The elevated green with bunkers surrounding it was a theme. The other theme was pin placements that were tough - this one is pretty far left. There were basically no easy pins on this day.     Hole 3 at Pine Needles. An extremely cool hole. Hole 5 at Pine Needles. The picture doesn't do the green site justice. Green of 6 at Southern Pines. A wild green, and a really cool setting at the edge of the property: Hole  Tee shot on 5 at Tobacco Road. Flag is on the flag, the huge fairway is to the right. Hole 8 at Tobacco Road. Downhill, medium length par 3 with this pin in the front part of the green. Really cool looking shot. A look at the pin placement and cottage on Tobacco Road 14. I hit one of my best shots of the trip here, to about 15 feet.
    • Yes, but season 2 being all of six episodes is a bit of a let-down, even if the season itself wasn't.
    • This is one of the greatest posts I've ever seen in my life on sports message boards like this!! Bravo, Sir!! 👏
