Also what do you normally play off the tee, how do you hit one?

I heard Tiger mention he thought fades are going longer than draws now.. because they carry longer and they're rolling out because of the way clubs and balls are made now. what do you think? You look at alot of the long hitters and you see them hitting power fades, JB Holmes, Camillo Villegas.

I used to hit a power fade, come to think of it some of my longest drives have been fades, now i like to close up my stance and drop back my right foot slightly.. nothing better than a high draw. I can hit a cut if i have to but thats my go to shot.

Power Fader here.

With the consensus having been that draws go further I spent the past many years trying to turn the ball from right to left, but consistency was a problem with the pull and the snap hook always a possibility.

The pull coming from turning the body too fast and the snap hook from swinging the arms and hands ahead of the body too much.

Then I heard Tigers comment and thought . . . hmmm, why not give the power fade a try. That used to be my shot years ago but I haven't been able to hit it right in a long time.

A few weeks ago I did everything right and was hitting perfect power fades very consistently and I haven't lost it, so I'm going to try and make this my go to shot off the tee.

Set up totally neutral, then open the stance maybe 5*, the key being to keep the feet and hips exactly in the same relation as they were in the neutral stance. Do not open the hips, or point the left foot open!

Then keep the head in a the original neutral position just behind the ball.
And lastly, finish with the hands high, which has the effect of keeping the face on target as long as possible.

The result I've had with this is the ball starting out left center of fairway and landing dead center with a run out slightly right center. The shot shape is simply classic, you will notice there is a distinct difference between a power fade and a 'fade'. The 'fade' is when the shot tails off right and tends to run into the fringe or rough. The power fade has 'middle of the fairway' written all over it from the instant it leaves the clubface and the run out is almost straight. It also goes much further than the 'fade'.

When you hit the power fade you feel like an accomplished golfer able to play anywhere, it's a beautiful shot, just ask Nicklaus, Hogan, and perhaps Woods if he listens to his own advice.

Your right there is always the possibilty of snap hooks, usually if im hitting those its due to too much right hand and too strong a grip, on those days weakening my grip usually works. It works both ways though, hitting the power fade i found i would block some drives.

I used to not be able to hit a ball left to right. Three years ago I joined my current club and out of bounds is primarily on the left. I thought I better learn how to hit a fade. I started working with a good pro named Frank DiSanto and he got me swinging upright more. I lost some yardage but kept the ball in play. Those snap hooks roll forever. The only bad part about the fade is I sometimes get in front of the ball and block it dead right.

This is a very interesting topic, since I started playing four years ago I always fought off a slice, by last season I had completely eliminated the slice and I am hitting what I guess you would consider a power fade. Very controllable and yet I've always been concentrating on trying to change to a draw. I'll walk on the course (I love joining groups, meet lots of interesting characters that way) and out drive my fellow players (not all the time of course) with my fade and inevitably get the comment "imagine how far you would hit if you drew the ball" Maybe I should just be happy with my ball flight as is and just concentrate on learning how to hit a draw when I need it. Only been on this forum a few days and I'm already learning some interesting things.

Thanks,
Robert

That is my "go to" shot when I absolutely, positively have to hit a fairway. I can hit a controlled fade at will and know where it is going. The problem on my home course is that the first 5 holes require a left to right shot with OB on the left. (I am left handed) There is trouble in the form of trees that prevents me hitting the power fade, so I am almost forced to hit a draw on those holes.

I just got one of the new square drivers and it seems to be a little easier to draw, I think it is the stiffer shaft that came in it. We'll see over time.
